Default a puff of white smoke on start up

I have a 05 sti with a 2010 shortblock with about 10k miles on it. It has Wiseco pistons and a GT52 setup.

I just changed the oil from AMS 5-40 to royal purple 5-30 and only sometimes after I drive it around for a while and shut it off, I go back to warm up my car it shoots out a white cloud of smoke from the exhuast. It smells like burnt oil. I did put 4.5 quarts in but thought nothing of it. I checked the oil level and its still a tad high and still purple. Car was on the west coast and now in the Midwest. are my rings going? My turbo shot? Am I just being stupid and over worrying? Or is something really messed up. Plus I am going to tune real soon but need to know if its okay to drive 3 hours to tune the car. It has been tune before but I just want it done due to elevation change(about 1200ft difference from where it came from and here)

Thank you for your guys support!

my car will puff a little white smoke after sitting for a bit and i get into the gas alittle right after i start it. I figure its just bow-by burning away.

You may want to do a compression and leakdown test to rule out any issues with the rings.. I just got done talking to a friend who had the same issue and took it to the dealer to find out the ringland on #4 was dead and had a cracked piston, But his was also consuming oil and you said yours is not. Never hurts to check though. Good luck

these are also aftermarket pistons not known for ringlands failing, Ive heard of and seen a lot of scoobs that puff some smoke on start up. Oil level is pretty important, DO NOT RUN IT OVER FULL, not even just a little.

do a compression and cylinder leak down test... if those end up being normal then start to look else where.

and +1 on the oil fill of the oil. have heard alot about that recently. so that would be something i would check after you do the 2 test i mentioned above. always better to be safe then sorry.

positive it smells like burnt oil?

(I doubt this is it) but my sister's protege puffs white smoke once when it starts and it is the sweet smell of coolant. your engine seems too new for that but at least something to sniff and rule out...
