Question Air Ride Suspension

How many people here would be interested on an air ride suspension such as the Praxxis system that currently available? I hear that there are more companies looking in to developing into this area more with the use of air cylinders.. I'm sorry that I don't have that much information on it, but how much would you guys pay for something like that? How low would be acceptable for it to go? Is it something that wold prove useful to the WRX?
Thanks

the wrx is already built with a performance suspension. i wouldnt trust my car riding on air. sometime in the future they will make coilovers that can go up and down with the push of a button.

I would be interested. I had been thinking about this for my REX or a wagon. Need to have more ground clearance when I hit the beach, but want that pimp look when Im not fishing. Had been mulling over a custom setup, ditching the whole coilspring setup for airsprings and a small compressor, then I can sell my ancient rusting 4Runner.

prodrive's new intelligent coilover looks to be the "holy grail" of suspension (if it can actually be developed to do what they are claiming).

prodrive-usa is no more - go to Prodrive's UK website:

http://www.prodrive.com/defaultflash.asp?M=5

once there, you will find no mention of the "holy grail" coilovers discussed above. It was apparently something the third-party importer prodrive-usa was working on - not Prodrive UK - and when that relationship died and Prodrive UK decided to take over via direct importation, they found the suspension system still in the development stage. but hey - Prodrive prices dropped immediately and they brought back the oval axleback - along with a lot of other cool Prodrive stuff - so I'm happy with the outcome.

If Prodrive UK is still working on the system, I can find no mention of it on their website except for this news item from 2003:

"Technical innovation award for Prodrive at SEMA
13 Nov 2003
Prodrive picked up a prestigious technical innovation award from Sport Compact Car magazine at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, which ran from 4th - 8th of November. The technical award for 'best innovation at the show' came as a result of the development work, which is currently being carried out by Prodrive USA on Active Shock Technology (AST).

The system uses a semi-active shock absorber in combination with a proprietary algorithm to automatically adjust suspension response in real-time, improving vehicle performance and driveability. In addition to exhibiting AST, Prodrive also launched three concept cars to evaluate market reaction. The cars on display were a TSX, fitted with various body enhancements; an Infinity FX-35, fitted with an aerodynamics body kit and supercharger increasing power from 280 bhp to 350 bhp; and an Impreza WRX STi fitted with various body modifications."

there is no mention of it in the Vehicle Dynamics portion of the Design page of their website. I have read on this board - but can't find the thread right now - that Prodrive UK is no longer pursuing this technology, at least as originally envisioned. Given the fact that Bridgestone has been able to sell very few $2900 Praxis systems to Subaru enthusiasts, that's probably a good idea.
