Newb headlight question
Merry Christmas Eve everyone! Does anyone know what color temperature the 05 stock HIDs are? I'm putting aftermarket lights in, but I want the same white light, not the blue tinted stuff. I was thinking stay 6k or under, but I don't really know.

Make sure you only stick to legit aftermarket bulbs like Osrams (Nightbreaker +50, +90), Narva +50, or any of the other ones listed on the Daniel Stern lighting page. I highly recommend the Nightbreakers.. nice and white, as much as you can without going HID or having blue tint all over them.
... given that's what you mean by 'aftermarket lights'. |

Do you have projectors retrofitted into your headlights? (I thought the 05 STi had halogen headlights? Maybe I'm wrong.)
OEM is usually ~4300k for almost every car manufacturer because that provides the most light output. Don't drop in HID bulbs into halogen reflectors/projectors. It's provides horrible lighting, the light scatters, and it's dangerous for you and everyone else on the road. |

Osrams are better than HIDs IMHO.
HID on left, Osram nightbreaker +90s on right: |

H9 to H11 conversion. That's the way to go.

Not on an '05 it isn't, especially one with HID's. Only the '08-up has H11 low beams.
TRMN8R, why would you put aftermarket lights in your STi when it already has the factory HID's? Unless you do a projector retrofit nothing on the aftermarket is likely to give you better lighting. If you're thinking of changing the HID bulbs only, don't. There is nothing to be gained, and plenty to be lost, by replacing the OEM 4300K D2R bulbs with anything else. |

Can you make halogen protectors work with HIDs or do you just have to buy a HID projector? If so wheres a good place to get them? I got a 2010 sti that didn't come with HIDs.. Dang special edition anyway.

HID specific projectors (NOT halogen projectors), or HID specific reflector based housings. Its a little more complicated than buying a set of projectors. Instead of destroying your sti SE, why not buy better halogen lights that were suggested above. Osram Nightbreakers. |
