Default Mikaust Goes 12.868 @ 108.28!!

Michael wanted me to post this up for him as his internet connection has been down for a couple weeks...

Anyway, last Friday night, July 6 he ran the following:

60- 1.981
330- 5.448
1/8- 8.309
mph- 87.01
1000- 10.778
1/4- 12.868
mph- 108.28

For sometime Michael has had the fastest 12 second WRX that never ran a 12 second run... his best up to this run had been a 13.04.... his goal was only to run one 12 second run and he would be done... I guess we shall see Michael...

Congrats!!

congrats. Look at the 60' though!
With a low 1.8 (even a 1.7) he'll be running DEEP 12's! Good luck!

Yeah with that 60' time he could have saved at least a grand by just working on his technique instead of pumping more money into the car and still be in the 12's.

Keep going at it with the same mod's and just work on your launch.........mid 12's are on their way easily.

nice #'s

How would you compare the feel of the Type RA clutch to the stock? Feel wise and engagment wise.

Thanks,

Carlos

Well I cant speak for Michael, but I do have the same flywheel/clutch combo as him and I like it very much. The engine revs so much more free and the clutch feels just about stock with very smooth yet very strong engagement...

I have noticed the car is harder to launch as the flywheel and the grippiness of the clutch tend to work together to hurt that... but all in all, during upshifts and downshifts the car feels so much happier!!

I also must add to mikausts mod list STi tranny and engine mounts (which I also have)...

The clutch set up is about the same feel as the stock clutch. My launch well believe it or not that 1.9 is 2 tenths faster than my average of 2.1. My car had a bad maf sensor before the 12.8 run. The turbo would not spool until 4500 rpm's. The dealer replaced the sensor and the car still was slow. I went back to Turboxs and hooked up with DR. Phil We tried changing the chip ....nothing. than we changed the perimeters of the chip and it got worse. Phil then suggested we change the program to the stage 4 and the car ran like crazy!!!!.Phil fiqures the tune we did was on the bad maf sensor so the new sensor could not deal with the perimeters set by the chip. This is a off the self program and what was pointed out eariler if you could launch better than me (99.9 percent chance of that) one would need to spend a heck of a lot less to get into the 12's Thanks heaps to Doug for posting this. I just got my cable connection back. and thanks to Phil Nathan and Mark at Turboxs for stopping what they were doing (As they always do) and fixing my car. Thanks Michael

Thank god is all I have to say.....

for tthe last, what 9-10 months now, Michale calls every week and we'ld talk about teh same thing:L he has the 12 second combo, but no 12 second slips! We talked about driving style, and a variety of tuning issues he had with the unichip, and driving style again (I always teased him about his grandma-esque 60 foots!).

And now, finally, with a mediocre 60 foot, he finally gets it.

Not if he can actually get a good 60 foot (low 1.7's), , he'll have some solid slips for sure!

PS - I still maintain that Mike's new brakes made all the difference in the world this last time at the strip

OK, I'm missing something. How could you have an STI RA clutch? Does the six speed clutch fit on the 5? I would have never thought that the two were interchangeable...so what gives?

Let Doug drive your car - easy 12.5' @ 110mph

Congrates on breaking into the 12s. I've done a 8.18 1/8 mile but haven't had a chance to run my car in the 1/4 mile. I can't wait to get my first 12 sec time slip for my WRX.

Kidding a side. You mentioned you usually pull 2.1 sec 60' times. Thats something you really need to work on. I would go out on a country road away from everyone and practice dropping the clutch at 5000 rpms. You should be able to pull easy 1.80s or better with your setup. Practice makes perfect. Just think as soon as you figure out how to launch you car you will be running easy mid 12s or better. Getting a good 60' time has a multiplying effect going down the track. It will take a lot more time off the clock than just what it shows at the 60' mark.

Post you new times - I'm sure they will continue to drop. Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words SGOS... what kind of sixty do you pull to get that 1/8th mile? I would think (based on the trap speed) like a high 1.6 or a low 1.7...

My best 1/8th (from my 1/4 runs) was: 8.340 @ 83.08... accomplished with a 1.836 sixty foot...

Close traps... but you kill me in the e.t. department!! Good job!

I know...so basically what you are saying is that you are using the old Type RA clutch...ahhh, OK. For whatever reason, I automatically assumed you were using new age parts.

See, I told you I was missing something.

The parts we are using are what are referred to as "take-out" parts. They are used to transport and manuveur the vehicles to their final destination (after they have been bought) and then are removed to be replaced with rally spec components.

From there they are sold... I picked this clutch/plate up for 230 bucks... and I love it!!! I think it MAYBE had like 25 miles on it...

COOL! I didn't see this thread.

Congrats Mike... you sounded so excited on the phone after pulling that time. He's like, "your never gonna believe what I just did..."

Anyway you had a good excuse for not getting there with the bad MAP sensor and all. Hopefully we'll all get good times at MIR tonight! Maybe Phil will get his 11 and Doug and I can get our 12's

My 60' times on average are in the 1.78 - 1.83 range. Thats running my 17'' Prodives (22lbs each). I know I could easily shave a .1 or so off my 60' times if I switched back to the stock wheels. I hope to get some new lightweight 17'' wheels (12-13lbs) sometime in the future.
I think the heat and humidity down here is what is hurting my trap speed. I ran my 8.18 @ 84.25 mph in 90 degrees heat with 60+% humidity. Thats a heat index of 100+ degrees. I'll have to wait until November for some good air down here.

You ran 20 psi on the stock turbo?

Nice times, sounds a little risky though.

I also have to say WOW. You are faced with the same hot humid air I have to deal with. You would be down in the mid 12s for sure in cooler drier air. That leads me to say "how do you do it?"

How do you freeze the i- cooler before your pass? I have to wait in a big long line before each run. Can you just jump out of your car and do it real quick right before your run. What kind of co2 delivery do you use? I want to try this with my car.
