Default Question about rust warranty

I noticed today that i have a small rust spot on my front right fender. Its an 04 so i shouldn't have rust yet. I know subaru has a 5 year rust warranty, has anyone ever taken advantage of that warranty? When i called i had to make an appointment to see the manager. Do they usually accept these claims or are they really stringent on them? IF they do accept it will they repaint the fender or replace it ore something?

thank you
devin

Usually the rust warranty is for "rust through". That means if it is so rusty there is a hole in it, they will cover it. Any other rust, you get to live with. I hope your dealer is in a good mood when you go there. Please respond back with what they say.

IIRC the major panels are galvanized on both sides. What did you do to scratch through the paint and gavlanizing? I doubt Subaru will agree that they're liable for that.

The rust warranty is a rust "perforation" warranty, meaning it has to rust through.

I had my roof re-painted due to corrosion under the paint. The paint started bubbling up. They fixed it under warranty but I probably should have left it alone. LEHMAN SUBARU IN MIAMI FLORIDA SUCKS!!!!!!! They must have 13 year olds painting cars at their body shop. They had to redue it THREE times and it still looks like crap. Anyway, back to your question. If the damage looks at all like a rock chipped it or someone keyed it or something like that, you're on your own. If it's surface rust, they'll probably turn you down. If it is indeed actually corrosion from inside or under the paint, they should take care of it for you.

it's a wired spot, its right along the corner where the fender meets the bumper. i dont' see how a rock could've chipped it. it looks like its rusted from underneath the wheelwell. i'll try to post a picture of it tomrrow. i wont be able to get it in to get looked at for a week cause the manager is out of town but when i get it checked i'll definatly post the results.

It very well could just be a surface rust stain. I found a couple on my white STi but they all washed away with careful use of WD40 and wax to seal things back up after cleaning.

I just noticed a rust spot on my car spot in almost the same exact spot and mine is 04 too! piece of paint chipped off and metal is exposed just like yours. Calling my dealer tomorrow.

How did you make out with the repainting under warranty?
