Do you guys mix the cocktail outside of the car or just pour one bottle of it in at a time?

I did exactly what you said, and it worked very well. It ended up being about 1.2 quarts of hypoyC and a quart of both the others. So it was really only a difference of .2 quarts which is almost equal proportioned |

After a few hundred miles, this stuff feels pretty good. Felt like it took a few days to "mix," but now I definately feel confident in my choice to go this way.

I had to adjust the ingredients as my local selections are limited. No Castrol or Pennzoil 80/90. 75/90 synth choices limited as well.
So... Will be trying Redline Shockproof Light, Pennzoil Synchromesh, and Lucas 80/90 in the transmission. Lucas 75/90 synth in the rear. Lucas is a popular brand in this part of the country. I'm anxious to feel the results. |

Anyone have any experience with this:
Shell MTX Fluid Product Code: 59419 Shell MTX Fluid is a fully formulated synchromesh transmission fluid (STF) for use in manual transaxle/transmissions. It offers excellent synchronizer performance, oxidation stability, yellow metal compatibility, and low temperature performance. This product will satisfactorily lubricate manual transaxles/manual transmission from –40°F to +300°F. It sounds like what we're looking for. |

No. I made sure the 80/90 is Dino, and it lists hypoid gears for one of its applications. 75/90 synth will be OK in rear diff, right? Thank you for making sure I don't f-up!! Last edited by Hagwag02; 02-28-2006 at 06:26 PM. |

Nearly word-for-word as the Pennzoil. Except Pennzoil specifically lists GM and Chrysler applications. Interesting, huh?? |

Ok Uncle Scotty, what if I found 1 bottle of the Redline, 1 of the Pennzoil, and after searching every store even close to my house, only 1 of the Castrol? Is there something I can top it off with? Or should I not use the Castrol and try something else for the 2 bottles instead?? Please help as my cars been draining all day and I want to fill it tomorrow afternoon!! Thanks...

I poured Scotty's cocktail into my 115k mile MY91 Legacy turbo about 500 miles ago. Not a dramatic improvement. I was hoping that my sketchy 3rd. gear synchro would be smoothed out, but it still requires patience and attention. I used:
1qt. Redline Lightweight Shockproof 1qt. Pennzoil Synchromesh ~ 1.7qt. Castrol 80W90 Hypoid I'll post again if I have further information to add. |

I hope it gets better for ya....but if it is abused or worn out, nothing but a re-build will really fix it. |

Thanks! |

Google is my best friend; I've been googling the bejesus outta it. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and order from multiple vendors.
Thanks again Scotty! |

I've only bought my carbon fiber hood from Chris @ CVR, but I'm already putting the finishing touches on buying a big package from him that includes the redline fluids I need for this cocktail. He's the cheapest price and best service that I've ever encountered online. Hope that helped. |

They might not have all of the items, but Summit Racing Equipment and Pegasus Auto Racing Supplies deal in Redline and other brands. Summit even included a hat and some neat-o stickers! That's at least 10 hp! Whoo hoo!!! |

My little darling is up on stands draining as I type this.
The old fluid (25,000 miles), while not black, smelled absolutely putrid, and I swear there was 1/4 inch of ferrous sludge on the magnetic drain plug. I didn't change it myself the first time, but is this amount "normal". Looking forward to finishing the transfusion in the morning. |

Gear lube smells horrible.. Thats probably what your smelling. And yeah, its normal to have some shavings and what not on the drain plug magnet. As long as they aren't big chunks!

I plan on using Torco SGO w/ the LSD additive for the rear. 6MT STi Tranny is still the question. |
