Stage 3 06 wrx tr looking for a bit more.
Hi guys, I've been searching around a bit on options for some more power for my wrx. Current mods:
Catless dp and spt cat back Gm boost solenoid Sti top mount intercooler VF39 Open source tune similar to xpt tuning stage 3 map I'm not sure how much power I'm making right now but I would guess in the neighborhood of 275 whp probably? Looking to make a bump in power and still keep things relatively safe. I know the tranny is at risk already, and I know adding any power makes things less reliable. Just looking for something that can be tuned conservatively and still make good power somewhere in the 325 hp range. Was considering: 18g or 20g. Let me know what support you think these need. Vf43? Adding meth, haven't researched much so any info helps. Going to xpt stage 3 race which adds cai and fuel pump and retune. Any combo of more minor mods and a good protune. Any suggestions welcome. This is a daily driver and will be used for fun on the street, very little track time. Thanks

I'd get injectors and a pump. You should be able to break 300hp with that and a good tune. Fuel will be a must anyways if u upgrade the turbo.
Whats ur budget? For a cheap bolt on replacement get the blouch 20g. for about double that you can get a twin scoll kit and get better spool up on a big turbo. bigger turbo and conservative boost will give you more reliability because you'll be running more in the efficiency range. intercoolers are there to help compensate for running your turbo outside the efficient range. meth would be the cheapest option. it would be like running e85 and having a much better intercooler for about $500. |

i can understand if you mean: a twinscroll setup will have great spool for a big turbo, but will only spool a little later than a 20gxt |

Not sure if it's the xt or the xt-r I don't really know why I posted that, maybe just to confirm that the 20gs spool fast as hell haha |

Thanks for all the info. Any other suggestions? My tuner said he can't get to 320 whp with a vf39 . Said to look at 18 or 20 g or even better the fp turbos. I'd like to keep the spool quick for fun on the street which is why in hesitant to go bigger in the turbo. That and I want to maintain some level of safety for the stock block

if i were you, i would do more research on the dyno database that cobb makes available on their website, they have loads of comparisons, athough you can only load 4 cars at a time.
further, i would speculate that the hta68 or blouch 18gxt would spool somewhat close to the vf39 and go way beyond after 4.5krpm. |
