Default Cheapest place for Gold Plus Warranty?

Does anyone know who is offering the Gold Plus warranty at a decent price now-a-days? Back in September I contacted Mastria Subaru and got quoted $995 for the 5Y/100K/$100, $1195 for 5Y/100K/$50, and $1295 for the 5Y/100K/$0. I just broke 31K miles after about 13 months of ownership so I doubt that I would need anything beyond the 5Y/100K warranty.

Also what does everyone think about the extended warranty? Is it worth it or should I just take the gamble and go without it? The only reason why I am considering it is because 2012 was the first year for the FB20 and for this CVT so I don't trust everything 100% yet.

Oh man, if you were going to rack up miles like that, how come you didn't get the extended warranty when you bought it? Don't know of any cheap warranty providers but a reputable one is important also.

I got the gold plus from the dealership but I wish i hadnt.

Those thieves were reluctant to even top off my coolant because they said it was "very expensive fluid" and stupid service manager (who happened to be female) didnt want to provide touch up paint for rust spots because she said i chipped it when its on the side edge of the trunk lid. Give me a break. I doubt they would fix anything under warantee even tho i spent 1200 for an expensive piece of paper with "warantee" at the top.

...i feel better.

The dealer was quoting me over $1500 for the same warranty and you have up until the expiration of the factory 3Y/36K to buy the Gold Plus warranty. I have been putting it off for a while now but seeing how I only have another 4,500 miles of my factory warranty it looks like it is time to pull the trigger.

So the same coverage is less now with 30K miles on the car? I thought you get the best price for these warranties when the car is brand new vs xx,000 miles old. I don't recall any of my choices being $1,500. I got the Gold Plus 5yr/60K/$100.

My dealer was trying to get as much out of me as possible. He first tried $2200 for the 5Y/100K/0 but then came down to $1,500ish for the 5Y/100K/$100. I declined coverage once he said that I would not be able to buy the warranty from another dealer(blatant lie). With the Subaru Added Security warranties you are allowed to purchase the plan(from any dealer) up until the factory warranty runs out.

I have since found the 5Y/100K/(100, 50, 0) for $995/$1295/$1395 respectively including tax. I am just curious if any other forum members have found the Gold Plus plan any cheaper than that.

I spent too much on the biggest warranty and I don't even know what it covers.

Yeah Joe @ Roto Subaru is awesome!

I got 7yr 100k 0 deductible for 1140 and no tax, I opt in for 10 month plan which add extra $79, but I can pay over 10 month with credit card. They all major CC except AMEX

I hate extended warranties. I hate the insurance industry in general, which preys on people's fears. IMHO, it's very difficult for a consumer to come out ahead on an extended warranty. The insurance companies study the actuarial data very closely. They know exactly how to make money on the deal with very little risk.

The consumer gets the short end of the stick almost every single time. Trust me, the insurance companies are not in business to do us consumers any favors.

You bought a reliable car. Trust it. Save your money and don't buy an extended warranty.

Or drop the money you would have spent on a warranty into a high interest savings account and only touch the money for repairs after your basic warranty expires.

That's nothing compared to car insurance. You pay for "just in case" something were to happen. You can drive for 60 years and never have an insurance claim but we're required by law to have it.

Yes, but we're not required by law to have an extended warranty. And I always advise against it (as does Consumer Reports, if anyone cares).

Update: I just called Joe at Roto Subaru and he quoted me $740/865/955 for the 5yr/100K/(100, 50, 0) Gold Plus warranty. He definitely beat out every other dealer I got quotes from. Now I must debate the risk of potential repairs to the cost. I am still up in the air about the warranty just because we don't truly know the longevity of these new engines yet. But seeing how the drive train warranty is up to 60K already I'm not sure if it is worth the money for that extra 40K worth of coverage.

Has anyone here had a Subaru with major issues(engine, transmission, AWD system?) under 100K?

Or, more specifically, has anyone had major issues between 60k and 100k miles?

It's a roll of the dice. You wish you had it if something expensive happens and you wish you hadn't wasted money if nothing happens. With this being the first year engine/transmission, reliability is unknown.
IMO, the way you just went through 30k miles in one year, I wouldn't bother with buying a warranty 'cause it won't last long at that rate. Just keep up with the maintenance.

To each their own I always say. Generally speaking, I have never purchased an extended warranty. I decided to on this car for a couple of reasons. There are a lot of electronics on vehicles these days. Traction control, stability control, etc. Then there is engine and transmission management. Variable valve timing. Electric power steering. (No doubt I could find more to list, but you get the idea.) There is simply a lot of crap that works great as long as it works. If it breaks it could cost a lot of money. One failure could pay for the cost of the warranty and then some.

You're going to divide $740.00 by 5 years, so for 148 dollars a year you are buying piece of mind. You have to decide if that amount is worth it to you or not. Yeah, insurance sucks sometimes, but I lost a motorcycle in a flood 1000 miles from home. Insurance paid for a rental car and paid for the loss of the bike. Sometimes it is better to have and not need than need and not have, but as I said, that is ultimately decision.

yeah I got it for same reason + it's my first Subaru, and FB20 is pretty new
in one of the thread, one person had to replace engine before 36k so..
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...1&postcount=48

I just hope I don't have to do that.

I'm guessing that engine was replaced under the manufacturer's powertrain warranty, so the extended warranty wouldn't have bought him anything that he didn't already have.

Question Gold Plus Warranty in WA State

Anyone know the best price I can get in WA state? The warranty has to be purchased from a dealer in WA due to specific state law requirements and I have only received 1 price of $1,990 from Mike Scarff in Auburn for the gold-plus, 6/100,000 plan. I appreciate an help as I am looking to buy. It is a 2013 Impreza

PM'd you. I think that Mike (et al) is confusing Extended Warranty and SAS (An Extended Maintenance Plan) - One is legal (SAS) and the other is not. I'm not a lawyer; however, must state that if SOA can sell you a SAS, then you should be able to buy one anywhere and still be legal.... NY, GA, FL, and a lot of other states try this "trick". Also, you should be able to purchase a Subaru Gold SAS with 100K Miles, 7 Years, with $0 Deductible for something under $1,400 dollar - maybe less (Like $1,300).

Ask Mike - "If I purchased this directly from Subaru/SOA, would I be covered and would it be 'legal' - then watch his reaction". SOA will send you an offer after your purchase.

Give Joe Spitz 206-769-7821 a call, he is in your area and a great guy to do business with, although a bit busy most of the time.
