Impreza GC8 93 L with Legacy Rocker Style EJ20G

I'm about halfway thru my tuning
93L with closed deck EJ20G from an old JDM legacy RS with the crappy rocker follower heads
90* Inlet 16G 20 psi tapering to 18
Leaky joint GP Moto "Style" header
E85
K&N Cone
3" Bellmouth + turbo back
Stinger 4424 Speed Density ECU
Walburrito
FXT TMIC
Temporarily 2wd till i'm done tuning it.
Peaks are 284hp @ 4750 & 324 TQ @ 4500

CF= 1.17, 4800 ft elevation, .13 in-hg vapor press., 25.3 in-hga Baro
Feels like a rally car, peak boost hits at 3800 on the street the top end sucks the big one

PE850s in Ph. I EJ25 Rails, max IDC= 85.
Cams are 238* & 246* seat to seat duration
.323" & .294" valve lift
so yeah, definately ghey cams for any sort of top end.

since your boost is up at 18 psi at redline and your power is falling off like that, i bet you can run way more timing after 4800rpm. dont think i've ever seen power drop off 100whp from peak....

It's not pretty...It has to run a 12.Xanything in the 1/4 and a sub 1:10 at our local .9 mile track before I elevate it from ****box status.

Dyno is in Grand Junction at my work.

hmmm....thats the same exact boost and timing i was running with my 16g. maybe the leaky header is causing the turbo to overwork....that combined with the fxt tmic could be part of the power drop...

Ahhh, so your on the other side of the mountains from me

So I take it those heads don't flow very well either.. the stock heads on my Legacy turbo (SS) 2.2 don't flow worth a crap either, but you can feel they still pull out to 5k before dropping off in power with a td04. Seems like your power IS dropping before it should. Since your on E85 I'd try not tapering boost off at the top to see if it makes any noticable more power... maybe more timing as Phatron suggested? Can you fit a larger TMIC in there? I put an 06 wrx TMIC on my Legacy and there isn't much room for a larger tmic, how about on your car?

..cool project though, I'd like to hear more about the Stinger standalone too!

Heatsoak was a huge issue on the dyno especially doing anything steady state. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything bigger that will fit besides the 06+ or FXT TMICs.
The heads are still big port EJ20G heads but the valve guides protrude into the port more and cam specs are roughly 20% smaller than stock EJ205 cams (256°/256° dur. .365"/.361") valve lift, so it's not flow per se but lack of lift and duration, IMO.

I modeled everything about this engine in Engine Analyzer and desktop dyno prior to tuning the car and peak numbers are within 2.5%; oddly when I was rebuilding the heads, I talked to Jon @ Delta Cams about running something not so weenie in profile specs he gave me were good for about 30-35 more peak horsepower during computer modeling but I just couldn't justify $500 for 30-35 theoretical hp but now I'm kicking myself for not doing it.

Yea I hear you- cams are not very affordable. I bought some BC's for the motor I'm putting together... hurts $$ wise but it's gotta happen. That makes sense to why your hurting on the top end..
