txl146, Thanks! That is what I thought. I just wanted to see if there were any other options and/or if I was off-track with my conclusion. I guess I will order the JDM splitter sometime soon!

Can't the USDM STI splitter be modified to fit under the JDM STI hood scoops on the 02 WRX's? I am thinking just cut it down some and re-rivet.

most likely it will fit, but I am pretty certain that it will be about 1" short.

FYI, USDM STI splitter is noticeably bigger than JDM ones. You can try and let us know.

Talk to Steve that is what he did on his car, except he had a JDM STI TMIC, a USDM STi splitter and a JDM scoop. But still the same splitter/scoop combo.

And txl146 I have to commend you on this and your other how to threads(injectors, turbo) They were a huge help to me when doing a turbo swap. Alot better than anything else I found. I recommend your threads to anyone thinking of doing these mods.

Default Update 2006 STI TMIC install to 2006 Wagon

This thread was of great use. Couple updates that I experienced though. I got the two hoses suggested on this thread (the 90 degree bend and the 3" straight hose) and I had a 2006 STi TMIC with the stock Y-pipe that came with it. I put it onto a 2006 WRX Wagon this past weekend. I actually had to chop about an inch on both sides of the 90 degree bend hose that I got from hosetechniques but once I did I was able to line up both mounts easily and the bolts went in no problem. I would say that I dont think I needed the 3" straight hose though since the stock one worked ok, but I ended up just using it (and cutting it a litte) to make both of my hoses match.

It was a great upgrade though. My wagon is still pushing the same boost etc. but I am getting colder air and I can feel the new intercooler (and hear it) work hard when I am above 3500RPM and the car's throttle response is ridiculous. I used to have a 2004 STi and got the Wagon for family changes....now I am getting back to having an STi with the Wagon.

Also added a Cobb cat back and the car rocks. I am actually still running a little rich, but its useful when I am pushing it hard. I will take pics when the snow stops.....

Great instructions though txl146!

Is it possible to use a gtspec intercooler splitter instead of a JDM sti splitter with a JDM sti bugeye hoodscoop? This would be for either a USDM or JDM V7 TMIC.

I was told the GTspec splitters scratch the crap out of the intercooler (no rubber shroud).

For those of us missing the $300 red elbow this kit works great:
http://www.rallysportdirect.com/shop...it-p-2469.html

I'm not advertising, I'm just saying that I used this kit on my '06 and it worked. I ordered it from these guys and they were pretty cool.

Reply back to the thread or PM me if you have any questions. It took me while to find this kit.

Maybe this is a good place to post this, maybe not. I have a JDM v8 STi TMIC on the way. Not sure if it is going to have the y pipe or not. If it doesn't, I think my wrx elbows will bolt on, and then would I be able to use one of those samco IC hose kits to finish the package?

A guy I know, he is on the boards, used his WRX elbows with one of the WRX IC hose kits to mount a USDM STI TMIC in his '06.

That's probably where I'd start. I think another friend has a JDM STI TMIC in his car and it's mounting points don't quite line up (he has a swapped '99 RS, not sure what year motor). I seem to remember something in the thread about the JDM TMIC.

JDM TMIC is a bolt on for the 2.0 wrx, just not sure what to do about the hoses.

Update... my STI TMIC fit my car with no problems. I had to hack my WRX prodrive silicon hoses to fab and elbow piece, but otherwise, everything bolted up nicely. JC

I did the extention in my current pipes with the metal tube and it keeps poping off at high boost ~15psi. I have tried ring clamps but it still pops off. It is a bit greasy and I was thinking some kind of bonding epoxy. Any thoughts?

you may have cut your pipe too short? I've never had any problem of it popping off even at 19psi.

Mine doesn't pop either but. I'm using T-bolt clamps which are tight as hell.

what are t-bolt clamps?

well I used an epoxy today and its holding just fine. The stuff was rated for 1500psi so I think I should be fine. I just hope that it is not effected by the heat.

Ok, im sure this has been done to death, but after six pages of reading, im more confused than when I started. So here goes......

I have a 2002 WRX. Just bought a 2005 USDM STi TMIC w/solid Y-pipe and red elbow on the end... Please if someone could give me a list of parts to do the swap clean and nice, It would be appreciated, Thanks
