Default don't go to Secor Subaru in New London CT

I went in with the intent of trading my 05 srt-4 for an 08 wrx. So i walk in and look around. 10 mins go by and no one says anything to me, Im 25 and wear a hat, loose pants, and a northface jacket. So i decided to go find a person to talk to, first guy i talked to wouldnt give me the time of day, second guy answered a few questions but wouldnt give me a qoute or anything, third guy answered a few more questions and gave me a horrible qoute which i said was crap and wrote down a # more to what i was willing to pay. 23,300.00 for a base model. so after some haggling we agreed on 23,600.00. Then the next day i went in with my trade and had it appraised. 2005 srt-4 with 18k miles, in show room quality condition. they lowballed the hell out of me, offering me 11k for the trade. I asked what they use to price the trades, he replied NADA. So i whip out the Iphone and appraise the car on the NADA website, says 14,890 for trade in great condition. So i told and showed the guy my findings and he stated it must be wrong and that i was full of ****. That was the last draw, i said thatnk you for your time and i will never buy anything from you ever and i will be posting up a review of your service. Then i asked the sales manager where the next nearest subaru dealer was, he said Holmgren in Franklin. I walked out and drove to holmgren where i bought a WRX for $200 cheaper and they gave me blue book for my trade.

If anyone lives in or around ct and is thinking of going to secor.... dont, its a waste of time, there attitudes are horrible, and the service is the worst ive seen.

typo man he corrected himself. I had a similar problem with Secor when I was looking for my bugeye back last summer. I wound up going up to Natic, MA at Metro-West Subaru. paid a little over 11 for it w/85k. Walked in then out same day no problems.

Secor is next to the Coast Guard Academy and Navy Submarine base Electri Boat/General Dymanics, Two Casinos, Three Hospitals, Huge pharmacutical Co. and blah blah blah...they charge pretty much whatever they want cause of the money rolling through here and don't have to worry much about customer service or being fair. I also had a problem with Whaling City Ford when I bought my Mustang. Ended up going to Morande Ford in Berlin, CT. Much better service and pricing. In short if there is a military base around a dealership...stay away from it. Esp. if you're under the age of 30.

I was just busting your chops.

You should've made it rain with that 6K, then they would talk to you in a heart beat.

I'm sorry to hear that you had such a crap time at Secor. I worked in Groton for 2+ years, and never had any problem with their service department. I helped a buddy of mine buy a car through them, he got a great price on the car as well as his trade in Ford ZX4. Remember though, trade-in on a non brand vehicle is always going to be less. A Subaru dealership really doesn't want a SRT-5 on its lot any more than I want an SRT-5 in my driveway.

I can't imagine that he actually said to you "you're full of ****". Perception does play a large role however. Maybe next time don't show up looking like you're 15. You know you're more mature, but they don't. Would you buy a high performance or luxury car from a guy who was dressed like Larry the Cable Guy? I think not.

I expect we'll hear from Brian (I think that's his name) of Secor shortly. He peruses these forums under the handle "Secor Subaru"

dealerships will always try to lowball you on a trade......and they base their price off of fair condition not excellent as far as i know.

Its all about how you dress....i was interested in trading my car in...

My gf is in the psychology field and we thought it would be funny to see how we get treated at different dealerships by the way we dressed....

I walked in to one dealership wearing sweatpants, sneakers, and a hoody....they NEVER approached me, i had to do that myself, they basically asked me a "What can i help you with?" WHILE they were walking around doing other things, so i had to follow them around basically...then when I finally got to sit down with someone, he would keep asking me, are you the only one making this decision? (my dad was cosigner and he wasnt there)

they wouldnt give me a price until i commited to purchasing the car, i told them i would make a move on the car that same day, got a price quote, and left, they called me for days then i guess they finally gave up

next up was a chevy dealership, i went in twice...once dressed up in sweats again, walked around outside, not a single person helped me out,

went home, the next day i came by wearing jeans, a button shirt and i brought my gf with me....

5 minutes...no lie, it was absolutely mind shattering.

same happens in:
Coffee shops, the better dressed/looking you are, the quicker you get your cup of coffee, and also at places like Gloria Jeans Coffee, they add whip cream and sprinkles if your a nice looking female being served by a male, same goes vice versa

They don't want your SRT-4, period. Although I never bought a car from them, I was treated professionally for my visits.

I was there last fall (with my made-in-last-millennium OBS) to see the '08 Impreza. In 10 minutes, I was test driving a new OBS by myself. I asked to see the WRX next, they brought out a new WRX from the back that has only 5 miles on it, and again let me test drove by myself.

Two years ago, when shopping for my wife, we test drove the Legacy, Legacy GT, and Outback XT. We went back several times to compare them with other cars we were considering. The salesman was patient with us and helpful.

I also have no problem with the parts and services for the few times that I was there.

I've never heard a bad thing about Secor before this (outside of the usual car dealership complaints like "I wanted to buy a WRX for $15k and they wouldn't sell me one"). Once upon a time I even heard it was the best place to bring a modded Subie for warranty work in the area.

That said, I doubt any dealer really cares if you're looking for a base model at the lowest price. And they certainly don't give a crap how much cash you have. They're more interested in the person who wants to buy an Outback with every option and finance the majority of it (and trade in an old Subaru while they're at it).

I'll vouch for Secor as well. I know a few people who have bought cars from them and had nothing but good things to say about their deals.

And I've been going to them for service since I've had ~15-20K on the car (I've got 105K on the clock now and she'll be going to Secor tomorrow for the timing belt). I started off going to Holmgren when I first got my car because they were closer at the time, but after they started royally ripping me off with what they charged vs. what work they actually performed, I made the switch to Secor and have never looked back. I'll never go back to that sham stealership for service or a new car (had a bad experience with them when I was first looking to buy my car)

Oh and Bill, the service manager at Secor is a real good guy who knows his stuff (used to work at Callaway).

Sounds like you walked in there with the wrong attitude and car. But you found a deal that you're happy with, so that's all that matters. I just wanted to put it out there that that's the first negative thing I've heard of about them.

On another note- how do you like your '08?

haha, ass swell.

It's possible that Holmgren has a deal with another Dodge dealer, or the owner has a Dodge dealership. That would mean they could unload teh SRT-5 easier. You never know. Secor might be subaru only, and knew they couldn't easily unload da fasta. So they offered you less.

And Holmgren beating the price by $300 is nothing. that's like saying "and when you buy this mansion, your first roll of TP is on the house!"

Bottom line - There are lots of factors that go into pricing. and the way you were treated, while not correct could have been easily changed if you didn't walk in looking like you were a 14 year old. Oh, and did he really swear at you? I still find that hard to believe.

If you were treated badly, ask for the Sales/Service Manager and complain.
I have dealt with SECOR for Years and currently have two Subies in my driveway from those guys.
They have always bent over backword for both me and my daughter (probably your age) when she bought her 1st Subie.
For Sales I dealt with Ray Gomes, the Service Manager is Bill Mortgenson. Both of those guys are A#1 and Lynn who handles the service calls is a pip! She makes me laugh. Speaking of laughing, they do have a good laugh when I bring the WRX in for the occasional service though because they say "how do you want me to fix that" there's nothing stock even left on the car" : ) I've even brought them my own (non SUBARU) parts and they would happily install them whenI needed it.
There's good and bad everywhere maybe you were one of the unlucky ones. Believe me, I've heard my share of stories about Holmgren as well!
GLAD you're finally happy.
