Does not imply USDM. I hope it comes here.

With 2.5 turbo and/or 3.6 NA and MT.....

FHI President Mori stated on 10/31 that:
  • the 7-passenger minivan type EXIGA Concept will be released into the market next year.
  • FHI plans to increase R&D expenses to especially help rally sluggish sales in Japan.
  • FHI will release its FMC Forester within this year.
  • a 2.0L turbo will power the EXIGA.

According to a 2/20/08 article from Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun:
  • Subaru has been taking actions to reform their production line at their Yajima plant since 2 years ago.
  • Subaru is set to manufacture a third model, the all-new MPV, by June of this year. Currently, the Yajima plant produces Forester and Legacy models.
  • Exports have been favorable and it will be the first time Subaru will take on the task of manufacturing three models on one line, the focus is on efficiency.

So it sounds like Exiga will be released around June. Will we see it here though? :P

Well, the rumor is that new gen Outback will be based on Exiga.

I like that idea very much.

Legacy is sporty mid-size 5 seater and wagon comes back
Outback becomes 7-seater family truckster

It's really time for Outback to GTFO Legacy line. They will be able to stop their nonsense argument of "confusing consumers".

And I'd buy both - Legacy wagon (turbo gasser) and Outback (turbo diesel).

The body is a little tall, more like a Legacy with Forester's body, or a Forester with Legacy's head.

They said they should start PRODUCTION by June. It would be closer to the end of the year before they hit the streets.

Default FHI to Promote All-New Minivan By Putting 4WD in Forefront

My translation of an article in Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun:

Quote:
FHI to Promote All-New Minivan By Putting 4WD in Forefront

For its multi-passenger vehicle that is scheduled to go on sale this June, Fuji Heavy Industries looks to center its sales promotion efforts around 4WD. Toyota owns a large portion of the minivan market share with their "VOXY"/"NOAH" models, while Nissan and Honda are putting forth their efforts with "SERENA" and "STEPWGN" models.

Fuji Heavy Industries, last to enter the minivan market, aims to establish their position by highlighting the sense of ride stability that is created by the combination of a horizontally-opposed engine and 4WD.

I've got to agree here, once we have little ones, I would much prefer the Exiga over some silly minivan or SUV. We could still get swivel pilot seats for the middle row too

Have two kids, drive a good minivan like a Sienna or Odyssey for a week and the term "Silly" will not apply.

For moving people and their stuff the best tool is still a full-sized mini-van. (kinda like an Jumbo Shrimp isn't it...Full-sized Mini-van)

^+1000 My wife really wanted an SUV when we were shopping a few years ago. But the usable space our MPV provides us is so much more than all but the biggest SUVs on the market, and the MPV is on the seriously small side of mini-vans. Our next family vehicle is going to be an Odyssey unless Subaru gets into the mini-van market. As much as I love this Exiga concept I just need more usable space for trips with the fam.

No offense meant on the "silly" comment. I realize they can be very flexible and practical. I would just prefer some sort of "smart wagon" (copyright to Nawambo)

Picture this: "The 2010 Subaru Exiga, the world's first and only Smart Wagon, with seating for seven, practical use of space and storage, mp3 and dvd outlets for all seats, and mid row swivel 'pilot' chairs, plus subaru's award winning, time tested symmetrical all wheel drive, what family can do without it? - The 2010 Subaru Exiga, the smart wagon."
