Why not just put 1 turbo per cylinder?

You expect your engine internals to withstand that?

My motor can probably handle 500WHP or so.

With only some piston, bearings, and studs? The rest of your block is stock STI internals, correct?

Yep, the rods would be next to fail, but STI rods have been known to do pretty well. From some accounts, better than some of the cheaper aftermarket rods. Stock heads will choke flow eventually, but they shouldn't lead to a failure.

Interesting. I'm just starting to put together the design for my block, with my 20GXTR and meth, but wanted higher redline and more pressure to fully realize their potential. I was looking at doing some head work as well; mainly just valves and spring and whatever else I can do at home.

For the 20G XTR I think that is mostly unnecessary. It's already running out of breath up top. Maybe some head porting would help, but raising the rev limiter on it's own won't really get you much, especially on meth (vs E85). I don't know that valves/springs would be worth it. I'd discuss this with a more experienced builder though.

My thought with increasing the RPM isn't necessarily to increase power numbers substantially, but to make staying within the powerband without tickling the rev limiter easier. With your setup, for instance, you can drive between 4.5 and 7k and stay above 400whp. With 93 and meth, I don't expect to make those numbers, but think that the curve will be similar. I'd much rather be able to push until I feel the power drop and shift; knowing I'm still in the power band rather than potentially shorting it and dropping out of boost. Yes... more precise driving could fix this, but so could a little engineering. That and I know that I'll want more turbo some day, no matter how much I tell myself that I'll be done with this I'm a long way from buying parts, with the exception of an EJ257 short block that I have sitting in my garage in case I blow up something along the way. For now I'm just trying to feel out what is available before bugging shops about a build. And, to stay on topic, I found you the perfect tint: |

By 7k your power will already be dropping off pretty hard. I rev mine up to about this, but there isn't much point in going past that. I can already tell the power is falling off by that point. Revving to 7k or slightly higher should be fine in case you need to hold the gear a little longer, but I don't see any point in building a motor that can rev to 8k for this turbo...

^Agreed; I'd love to see a reliable 7/7.5k though.
Along those lines, I was thinking a little about changing the tach to reflect the adjusted redline. Have you ever considered opening it up and replacing the printed backing? Or a different cluster? That and the stupid clock reflecting the wrong mpg with the larger injectors. |

to flow above 8k you need a big ol' motha****in turbo most 30r's can't even do that.
as far as the tach i'm debating doing it on the brz, it seems pretty straight forward. however for thee cars there really in't much you can do with the tach because i haven't seen any crazy JDM designs like the GD's have or any over lays...i'm sure you can make that work though, splitting the cluster is pretty simple. here is a destroked 2.35L with build heads and a 35R ON PUMP with only minor fueling mods. if it were me i'd do this exact setup but i dont know how much a five speed can handle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=_F30Vzb0qHg as far a the clock you can cover up that entire thing with a pod but i liked the time there, i know one member took his Accessport apart and put the screen in there instead of the MPG meter, thought that was pretty cool...saw a thread about it. |

I really couldn't care less about those things.
The tach and clock I mean. Last edited by xluben; 12-18-2012 at 05:43 PM. |

^That turbo is quite a bit bigger than a 35R though. ^FYI - This is not a twin scroll turbo. It's single scroll and the rotated mount combines the two runners in the twin scroll header. You can tell because there is only one EWG dump. |

sii, full race makes a lot of headers like that. much more efficient than just having EL and opens up turbo choices.
i say you rotate that dump...to come out of the NA hood. RACECAR. |

Yeah, 1.5 scroll is what it's typically called. Just moves the collector to right before the turbo instead of right before the uppipe. Dump out the hood would be funny.

I saw that. That's the exhaust though. Not just the dump, lol. That seems pretty common on the Honda drag cars. A little much for a DD though...
Some of the local Subaru's that have Fobia kits do the dump tubes coming out of the fender. That's a little more civil, lol. |
