How fast are our cars?
Just wondering, compared to everything else out there, how fast/slow are our cars, handling, 0-60, everything, compared to other cars out there?
Assume intake, exhaust, springs, struts, roll bar, tires and single point ground mods as given, since just about anyone looking to go fast makes these mods. Does that get us a car that's faster and/or better handling than a GTI or turbo Jetta? Civic Si? Mini Cooper S? Jeep Cherokee? I know awd means we're not the fastest, but hope we're not the slowest...

Our cars are quick. I ran 15.5 with ganzflow and scoobysport catback. Basically babying it off the line with a 2.1 60'. Against other cars straight line racing, we are usually in front (unless its an ungodly fast car) and if the other car is faster then they usually catch up at the top of third/bottom of fourth gear.
Handling wise.. the capabilities of our cars are very high. Throw in a good setup and you are outhandling many respectable handling cars. In the rain, you will definetly have the advantage over everything on the road. In the snow, there's no contest. The RS isn't a drag racing car. It's more of an all around do anything car. The RS sure is awesome in the first three gears though. The AWD does help alot in handling but it doesn't do anything for braking, so remember that. The RS is basically a perfect enthusiast's car. It can do everything. |

Good all around car, with lots and lots of potential, as said its defintly an enthusiests car, not many cars give you such a great platform to build on.
its not really great at anything, cept the snow. Most cars in its class are a bit quicker for one reason and one reason only, AWD sucks up our HP. If the RS was two wheel drive, it would be much 'quicker' But who wants a 2WD car anway! LOL Jay |

Jeep Cherokee??? Under what circumstances would this be? the 4.0 definitely, the V8, I don't know. Jetta 1.8t's are not really fast without some serious work. I've found my car is quicker than most of the "sport compacts" made before 2002. The new stuff comming out (srt-4, GTi VR6, svt focus, SE-R Spec v) is getting faster.

Yeah our cars are fairly quick. I'm not too sure if the GTI VR6 is quicker or not, I would put my money on not. No doubt an SRT-4 is much much quicker, you can probably take them off the line though. As for the Focus SVT, and the Sentre SE-R V Spec; the focus only produces 170hp, and 145 ft/lbs of torque, no way is this car going to keep up with you; you will beat it off the line by a car length or more, and they don't have the power or torque to pull on you. Sentra's are putting out about 180hp, and 175 ft/lbs of torque, you will also beat this car off the line by about a car length, maybe more, and since the hp and torque numbers are almost the same I would say you will stay in front of the. As for top speed. I got my car up to 135 mph about a month ago, and my car is completely stock. I was in fifth gear running about 5200-5500 RPM, so I would say the car is good for about 140mph stock.

I'm guessing the 2.5RS doesn't have a fuel-cut at a certain speed? Mine kicks in @ ~115mph. Not like I need to go that fast, but its always fun to see what she'll do.

x4, i agree with the focus svt not keeping, up, i'd be really curious on the sentra se-r spec v, i'll be giving it a shot with my buddies 03 in a few days, but i think thats going to be a pretty even race, it just has better gearing then ours, but i'm a little bit better driver, should be fun

of course you have to know how to launch the spec V for this scenario... that car has so much torque, that it's hard not to light em up and hop down the track when you run... |

There's this Spec V that lives by my house and I drive by it almost every day. It's modified and one day I will probably have an encounter with it. It should be an awesome race. My friend owns a 98 VR6 and he could only muster a 15.7 with intake and exhaust. Shouldn't be anything too tough to beat. |

no way on earth an RS will hit 140 stock... it can't even quite hit 120 stock due to drag... it would take quite a bit to hit 140, probably heavy NA build or FI...

DanzBorin,
I agree and disagree. Speaking from experience I know a stock RS can go past 120 in the flats on an open road because I did it in mine when it was 3 months old and unmodded. This was not a downhill run! You are totally right about not hitting 140. With CAI,Stromung Cat back, and copper plugs I've been up around 130 (based on rpms, since the speedo ends at 120!!) To hit 140 would require quite a bit more HP with the drag of our car. For people's reference, it will redline in 5th at about 145. |

The RS was a contender back in 98-99. Today, there's too much out there that has more power. Even in the handling realm, w/o a rear swaybar and tires you'll be playing second fiddle to most of the current hot FWDers. |

actually it would probably require about 165-170 whp to hit 140, since thats about what the wrx can hit stock
but yeah, you'd probably need to go turbo, nos, or heads/cams with full exhaust, intake, pulleys/flywheel |

Guys I'm telling you that the RS is good for about 140mph, maybe slightly more. When I was doing about 135 the needle was pinned down by the lower right side of the odometer and still going. The road was flat, and the car was damn fast. I also know for sure that a WRX is good for more than 140. I was in my friends when he first got his, and we went past the 140 mark on the speedo. I think you guys are underestimating subarus. I mean I'm speaking from experience, not from some dyno run telling you how fast you would be going at so many RPM's with so much HP. There are too many factors for a dyno run to be 100% or even 90% accurate. As for me, the only numbers I really trust when measureing HP is the BHP rating.
Also, God Bless America Guys. What a tragic day it was two years ago. But lets go on and live life. |

i had a 2002 gti 1.8t, it ran a 15.3 when i went to the track, i know its faster than that but i couldnt figure out a good launch with the turbo
the gti vr6 for 2003 is faster than the 1.8t, previously they were slower the nice thing about the 1.8t is if you chip it, it gets very fast for a 500 dollar chip it will bump up to around 220hp, still 1 tire fire tho the interior and creature comforts on the gti are way betta than my 04 rs we had a 4.0 cherokee, it ran a 15.7 when we took it to the track, it was a 5spd |
