why didnt u buy a wrx?

ure gonna need.. well.. a turbocharger... an intercooler. probably some exhaust modifications and probably more stuff than that.. ie fuel lines and pump.. maybe new injectors as well. some internals that i am unsure of because i dont know what the rs has thats different from the wrx inside considering the lack of turbo. i am sure someone else will give you a much more detailed response.

Do a search in aftermarket forced induction. But you will nee the above mentioned stuff, plus all the ancillary stuff. I think it would be best to try to either A.) buy a complete WRX engine, and swap it, along with ECU and exhaust. Or B.) buy the stock parts off of someone that has gone aftermarket on all the parts needed for a turbo system. try to buy the stock WRX parts that the person still has laying around. Here is some of what to look for:

-Stock WRX exhaust manifold.
-uppipe either a STi one or aftermarket would be best.
-turbo, either a stock WRX TD05H, or maybe a New VF-22 since they can be had cheap or other used VF series turbo
-turbo cross member, this is what the turbo mounts onto, if I am not mistaken
-stock WRX intercooler, with all hoses, and stock recirc valve
-stock WRX exhaust, or after market if you want. (At least an aftermarket downpipe)
-Maybe a WRX fuel pump, not sure if it is different from a RS fuel pump, capacity wise.
-I would go with STi injectors just for reliability and safety sake, screw the blue ones. Or go with modified blues or something like that, don't just use the stock blue injectors.
-Induction pipe, from airbox to turbo
-intake box, or short ram/cold-air for WRX
-ECU, gotta have something to run the whole thing. Get stock WRX ECU out of a wreck or something. try these guys http://www.fsautoparts.com/
You could probably source a lot of little stuff from there, but I would try to get stuff here, from memebers. You'll probably pay a lot less here.

If I am leaving anything out, someone please chime in.

The turbo crossmember dosn't hold the turbo, its holds the motor. They call it a "turbo crossmember" because there is a notch in it to give clearence for the header and up pipe.

Judging by your screen name, I am not going to argue, I was just unsure exactly what the part was, but I knew it was needed.

Thanks,

Turboing an engine that was not designed from the start to be turbo'd usually ends up with a blown engine and a LOT of wasted $$$.

A motor swap may be possible fairly easily....check the 'conversions' forum....

The only reason I wouldn't suggest trading in your 2.5 for a WRX is insureance, you might not wanna have to pay a high price for insureance, thats why you got a 2.5 in the first place.

If I were you, get an older 2.5 or L, swap in a WRX engine, then you don't have to worry about a warrentee, or insureance.

I'm sorry, but if you can't afford the insurance jump for a WRX, how can you afford to do a swap? The costs are substantial, and the risks involved(no warranty) also warrant a substantial amount of cash to be available to do this in a fiscally responsible manner.

I never understand that. I can't imagine insuring a WRX over a 2.5RS would amount to more than a $1000/year difference. Besides, to get your insurance to cover the swap parts, you might possibly need to notify them of the changes ahead of time, which could result in a rate increase anyways.

A WRX swap is a one time cost though, insurance is every month, eventually the insurance will cost more then the swap.... might take a while, but it will.

Remember the RS engine runs 10.5:1 compression.....the wrx stock has 8:1.....The stock wrx turbo runs a typical 13.5 PSI ....I can imagine 13.5 PSI and 10.5:1 compression would go toghether very well...

the problem with a 2.5rs is there is almost nthing you can do to the engine (i'm a newb so there might be, just don't know about it...if someone knows pls make suggestions)

but thx for the good info guys

You can do some minor performance upgrades such as changing your exhaust and when a CAI comes out, swapping that in.

Apparently Injen has an 05 CAI but I haven't really seen anyone use it other than Caplin2.5

Too bad subaru doesn't do what Saturn does ... If you don't like your car or want something different in the first month, you can trade ... No fuss no muss ...

if you get the kit...use a 2.2L turbo it's really small has great boost response and will have less of a chance of poping your 10.5:1 compression
