Hi everyone, I'm new here. Just got a 2012 Impreza premium. I have some existing Thule stuff I want to attach and I don't want to use the mounting points (I want to be able to take the rack off and use with another car if I want to). Does anyone know if the 480R and kit 1649 will work with the 5-door (Thule says it works for the 4-door but the hatch isn't listed). Thanks!

Thanks for the info, I just ordered the same box! I'll be mounting it on Thule Crossroad feet with the square bars.

So you don't need to worry about your spoiler getting scratched when hitting the Skybox? Do you have the bigger optional spoiler on your hatch?

EDIT: Never mind. I see in the other thread where you posted a picture that you have the optional spoiler. I don't, so hopefully I won't have contact issues at all. Thanks for the info and pictures!

Hey guys, just received a Thule Hull a port and kayak feet. Anyone know if these will fit the Subaru factory cross bars? Or should I spring for the Thule Aero bars. I have a Premium 5 door.

Thanks!

OK, the front bar goes as far forward as possible.

How far back did you go with your rear crossbar? As far back as possible?

As far back as the skybox anchor adjustments would allow, which places the crossbar pretty much right in the middle of the rear "hole" on the rails. About 30" spacing IIRC (front of front xbar to front of rear xbar).

The best price I've seen is on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Yakima-SkyBox-16s-Rooftop-Cargo/dp/B001PUZXGK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348790489&sr=8-1&keywords=yakima+skybox+16s

I can't hear any difference between with vs. without the Skybox, even at highway speeds.

Oh, and with the box mounted as far forward as possible, there's several inches of clearance between the box and the hatch when I open the hatch fully. As you can see, I don't have the optional spoiler installed on the hatch.

Have you had a chance to compare mpg's with vs without the box? How big of a drop have you noticed?

Thanks. My guess is a loss of 1-2 mpg based on what I have read. Look forward to hearing what you experience.

My hope is that the shape of my Yakima Skybox is more aerodynamic than having a bunch of stuff strapped onto a Load Warrior, and therefore will not impact fuel economy as much as you describe.

Stay tuned for actual data this time next week....

yea, i believe you would be right. mine is very un-aerodynamic and makes quite a bit of wind noise. good luck.

That much I can tell you right now. I don't get any wind noise at highway speeds with the Skybox mounted onto Thule square bars.

mine is not that bad, it is more like having round cross bars and no fairing. i have thee aero bars attached to the car. i sometimes wish i got the sky box, but i like having the idea of tossing dirty items or relatively no height limit.

So round cross bars are louder than square cross bars? I did not know that.

well i didnt say that. i just said that my rack sounds like having round bars without the wind fairing. there is a noticeable howl/wind noise.

With my Thule square bars (mounted onto Thule 450 Crossroad feet), I don't hear any noise regardless of whether my Skybox is installed, or if I'm driving around with just the empty bars.

2-3% of 35mpg is about 1mpg.
