Some guys don't like going under the knife and going through rehab if they don't have to (understandably so).
I would like to believe that, but that is the excuse they use. Many athletes believe that they have been injured while on company time (during the season), then they get to recover on company time (during the season) and not during the offseason. Shaq was notorious for this, admitted such, and many pro athletes share the same sentiment.

Does anyone else think its a little odd to announce your retirement 14 months in advance? Also weird to retire in the middle of a season.

One more week .

Basketball reasons

I guess it has something to do with when he started and that date being exactly 30 years later.

Why is no one talking about Hardens trade to the Rockets? Especially Pattylicious

Rockets are going crazy this year. Did ownership change or they are just in a win this year no matter what mentality

Because it happened like 2 hours ago? This thread doesn't get the traffic the NFL thread does. I actually kind of like the trade for the Thunder. Jeremy Lamb is a good young cheap lottery pick. And they get Kevin Martin. That's not too bad considering they couldn't afford him anyway after paying Durant/Westbrook/Ibaka/Perkins.

They also get a lotto pick from the Raptors.

Pretty fair deal for them.

A big FU to Harden from management for turning down their extension.

I'm also biased because I'm a Uconn/Lamb fan. Well not during this years sanctions, but generally speaking.

Haven't seen the details of the Harden trade, but I'm pretty pissed about it from the headlines.

Anyone have a link to a good review of the trade?

I have faith in Sam to do right by the team, but this seems questionable considering the talent being collected by our competition.

Hard to sign him after all the contracts signed already. As a small market team he has gone far beyond what other similar markets do. I actually really like the trade, as I like the Thunder. Link:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nba--th...-27481909.html

The important details:

Quote:
The Rockets sent Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and future draft considerations to the Thunder for Harden. Along with Harden, the Thunder will send Cole Aldrich, Lazar Hayward and Daequan Cook to the Rockets............ Houston also sent two 2013 first-round picks (from Dallas and Toronto) to Oklahoma City, as well as a 2013 second-round pick (via Charlotte). The Thunder will receive the Toronto pick this year if it's slotted Nos. 4-14. That pick also is top-three protected in 2014, top-two protected in 2015 and top-one protected in 2016.
That's a pretty good deal. I mean I love Harden and everything, but that is as close as it gets to good value.

Yeah, Rockets fans appear pretty pissed off.

Gave up Lamb (who is a very good prospect), serviceable expiring SG in Martin, and a lotto pick from the Raptors, and will now have to max out Harden.

Harden is good, but the cupboard is bare in Houston. Hard to go from third banana to lead dog.

Not to mention the gross overpayment for Lin. I don't know what's going on in Houston.

Saw the headline of a "big trade" and saw Harden's mug.

Said to myself, "I hope it's the Bulls."

Yea, deal seems far to me. But I'd be pissed if I were an OKC fan. Harden turned down 4 years at $55.5 million. His max he'll make in Houston is 4 years at $60 million.

You think he wanted out of OKC?

Sounds like an individual move from a guy tied of being a shadow. Good luck never winning a title Harden.

I mean I'd understand if it was $10mil+, but $4.5? Have fun in Houston after they gave up A LOT.

Only thing I could figure is that he wanted to have the #1 spot. He's loved by the OKC community and does a lot of charity work around here. I don't think it was the money, community or team that pushed him away, it was the opportunity to run a team that drew him towards Houston.

Too bad it's Houston, who are now in an even tighter spot than they were before this acquisition.

Oh hai.

I was in Norman all day yesterday for the OU/ND game (didn't actually go to the game) and heard about the trade late. It was a rough day to be an Oklahoma fan.

At first I didn't like it but after thinking about it I am okay with it. They offered him as much as they could. He isn't worth potentially screwing the teams salary cap situation for the next four years. I'm not real big on either Lamb or Martin but I haven't seen them play much. Martin is only under contract through this year and I don't expect them to re-sign him.

I'll miss watching Harden play. He was a fan favorite being a bench player and having an awesome beard. It was good move for the long run. Its nice having a GM that has a plan that works and sticks to it.

That's why your team can be sustainable. Teams like LA can just wait and expect stud free agents to want to sign with them. Plus they don't care about the luxury tax.

Sam has a broad approach and looks down the line. I think you're going to really like Lamb in time. He's a Calhoun coached kid. Uconn guys typically have long successful careers. Allen, Gordon, Villanueva, Okafor, Butler, Gay, Rip, and so on.

crazy day for an Oklahoma fan! im a huge thunder and OU fan (family from muskogee, OK) and i hate to say it but i saw OU losing that game before it started. Jones is just not that great of a QB and the ND D pretty much let him throw until they got in the red zone then shut him down. tough day.

as for the thunder trade i had the same reaction, i didnt like it at first, then thinking how he disappeared in the finals last year and how good kevin martin is AND maynor is back, i think martin will fill in harden's role just fine. and i liked lamb back at UCONN when they won the title, i thought be would be better than kemba walker in the pros and now hes on the thunder?!? i hope he lives up to it. maybe if they dont resign martin, lamb by that time will have come into his own and be the next james harden off the bench? wishful thinking but possible.

for $4.5 mil harden shoulda stuck with the thunder, his mistake. i think lin is overrated and they are deff farther off from a title than the thunder for the next 10+ years.

thunder is winning it all this year boii!!

I think it's a bad trade for both teams,

Bad for OKC because they should have kept their core together and tried for a championship again. If it doesn't work, trade him next year if they can't work out an extension. I don't see how you can justify breaking up a team that just made it to the finals to get back a lesser player in K-mart and a prospect in lamb who won't be a major impact player on a team for at least a couple years, if at all.

Bad for Houston because harden will surely get a max contract from them He worked well in OKC coming off the bench for his play making and scoring but there's no way he'll be able to lead a team as a #1 option.

Either way I love this trade because it puts the LAL even further ahead in the west
