I don't know where you get your information. The 18G-XT is a great turbo for a daily driven car that is looking at something between the lag of a 20G and the punch of a VF turbo. There aren't a lot of "fast" cars out there with them because they aren't a 500hp turbo. They work great for the target power they were built for and they hit their designed power numbers with very little lag, smooth output and steady boost. They are an excellent Autox and drift turbo. Next time I do a swap into an older Impreza I'm running a 2.2L with an 18G-XT. The torque is great, the feel is great and the power pulls to redline. My next DD STi will get a 20G-XT. My RS runs a custom Blouch 35R that rips. I have used turbos by FP, Deadbolt, Element, Turbochargers.com, Kamak, Precision and ATP. The Blouch turbos are my favorite and will receive my money with very few exceptions. BW will be that exception depending on the build. FP will never get another dime from my company. Blouch discounts all their turbos. They rotated the discounts on all of them to give the customer a chance to get the turbo they want at a lower price. |

Very true, and dyno results with the two turbos on the same car show very similar results, with the 18g-XT-R having a slight, but very clear advantage in spool.

18g seems to show great results on dyno charts but nobody goes fast with em. I don't understand how a turbo pulls great to redline while my vf52 falls on its face and I seem to pull better times. Either everyone with a 18g can't drive or something strange about that turbo. 20g is strange too, people see 50-100whp with em and then go run mid 12s with em at the track. All Im saying is if I put a bigger turbo on my car, I wanna go faster and I don't need 500whp to do it. 18g doesn't really put down more peak hp than vf52 although it holds power longer. People should be running low 11.20s with em and 10.80s with a 20g. Most guys don't even run 10s with 30r

The big difference in the turbos are the turbine wheels; the regular XT has the Mitsubishi TD05 journal bearing and the R version has the Garrett ball bearing. The Blouch rep claimed that the Garret Turbine wheel was larger than the Mitsubishi, and regardless of the R being ball bearing, it wouldn't spool faster. This didn't make since to me since they are both rated at 430hp on Blouch's site. Being Ball bearing, shouldn't the R spool faster versus the regular XT considering they have the same potential power? What's the point of having both turbos?
Since Blouch couldn't guarantee me that the R would spool faster, I decided to go with the proven results of the regular XT. It's a fantastic turbo with great off boost response, spool and pulls all the way to redline. Cobb said I was leaving 20hp on the table leaving my stock intake and stock sti muffler. I'm very happy . 18G Alone: Stage 2 overlay: 18G 302hp 322tq Td04 224hp 315tq Mods: 18G-XT 8cm 2011 Sti Top Mount IC AVO Turbo Inlet TXS Catted Stealthback Sti Muffler ID 1000cc Walbro Pump Cobb is working to get my graph (and dyno video!) on their dyno database. Once they do I'll upload a graph that's easier to see, I hate the mustang dyno print outs. |

So which is it? My point is that what makes a good 1/4 mile car is not necessarily what makes for a good car for everyone else. If someone likes, say, canyon driving, where they are driving between 30 and 100 mph, then I bet a 20G car would put a whoopin' on the VF car. Or if someone likes doing highway pulls, 50 -120 or whatever, the 20G car will kill the VF car. You don't need to push your opinions onto everyone else, we have right-wing religious zealots for that. |

Protuned with a turboback as the only mod. The 18G is night and day difference, no comparison.
