Quest for 11's in the VF48 Saabaru (How much more can I get out of my VF48?)
I currently have...
VF48 Turbo Spearco TMIC STI Y-Pipe TurboXS 4" DP P&L 3" Street Catback P&L HiFlo Intake Samco Turbo Inlet Hose Walbaro 255 Fuel Pump Cobb v2 Accessport GM Boost Solenoid Here's the Dyno... (20psi, injectors were maxed out resulting in taper to 15psi at redline) Went [email protected] on 93 at the Subaru shootout. (With a 1.9 60ft.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXLoia696oQ *Update* - 12.6 @ 109 with a 1.87 60 ft, still on the stock clutch and transmission with no new mods. Still waiting for a transmission upgrade before I add any more power. I figure a decent 60 ft would get my current setup into the 12.4's on pump gas, I'm starting to think my goal isn't too unrealistic. Once I have a drivetrain durable enough to stand up to some launch control I'll be ready to try. I'm currently looking into my next "stage" of upgrades, and I'm aiming for low 12's and maybe high 11's if the conditions were right. I've realized heat is my enemy on the top mount, so I'm trying to reduce it as much as I can. I'm also planning on a 109 tune in addition to my 93 tune this time around. Here's my plan for the next batch of mods, would it be wise to upgrade my stock BPV? P&L 44m EWG Kit Maddad v2 UEL Headers DW 750cc Injectors 1 step colder plugs TGV Deletes Phenolic Spacers Heat Wrapping on the Downpipe, Uppipe, Headers and Turbo Any advice or input is welcomed.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage between the Tial 38mm and Tial 44mm external wastegates on the stock turbo? I'm starting to lean towards the 44mm because of the V-band. Just wondering if the 44mm is "too much" for a VF48, if not I'll probably step up to it.

You can do better that 12.9 with that much power and the 93 octane gas.
My car has a VF 22, pinks TX TMIC, HKS Hyper TBE and a tactrix flash with 90 octane (276whp/283trq) 12.86 on the strip. And Jamaica ain't cool, it is pretty hot. |

Yup, you are correct. I can probably knock 3 tenths off my 60ft if I get a good launch (waiting on a stronger tranny/clutch). I think the trap speed is what should be relevant. I wasn't trying to imply that my 12.9 run was anything impressive. You aren't exactly comparing apple to apple either, isn't a VF22 noticeable larger than a VF48?

If you have your heart set on 11's I would start with wrapping your DP/turbine housing. I would also port/polish your headers/turbine housing. Additionally weight removal is huge.

Add meth or a C16 tune and you might have a shot.
Weight reduction is your friend. Dry ice too. |

yourself.
As far as water spray is concerned, using liquids at a track isn't the brightest idea. Not to mention spraying your IC with warm water in staging isn't going to do squat. On CO2 sprayers... I'd much rather grab a bit of dry ice and chill the IC. Last edited by fujiillin; 06-13-2008 at 06:19 PM. |

WRAP YOUR TURBO! Ceramic is OK, but Thermotec turbo wrap>>>>>>>coating. Search for Thermotec in the parts review forum for my review and others'....it's what all the cool kids are doing and since someone posted the link to the previously unknown ~$35 kit there, it's cheap as crap.

Has anyone on Nasioc maxed out the vf48 with injectors + FP+ and Fmic? I am curious to see those numbers.

The VF48 seems to be the best oem turbo out now. So I wouldnt look for a replacement just yet. Infact, for your purposes, the VF48 should be more than enough. TGV deletes are a must on any Suby (its just another bottle neck). And definately get bigger injectors. With the new mods you listed above, you should make about 330ish on that same dyno (on 93 pump)

AutoPlaza Tuners Miguel ran a 12.2 with pretty much full weight 08 STi
He has TBE, Intake, tomei Header, his tune, 93 octane. That's about it. Not sure how much the saabaru weighs, but I would say you have a good chance of getting low 12's as well, as im not too sure how much dual AVCS tuning accounts for more power in comparison to last gens. |

Improving your driving will help out alot. I ran a 12.7 @ 107(1.80 60' ft) with only 296/326 on Jorges dyno. I don't know how hot at your track but it was 89 when I ran the 12.7.

i have seen 12.8's on just a invidia dp this past weekend...soo i deff think a 11sec pass is attainable on the vf39. he plans on putting a few more things on it to see what he can do...here is what he plans on doing...soo just figuer 1 mod gets him to 12.8s all day...
fmic, 850cc injectors, a nice walbro, good header and uppipe/ external wastegated, alil meth and a protune by jorge. we will see what happens. i will post numbers from his dyno plot and when we get times i will post.. i deff think its attainable |

needs more turbo....you will have trouble hitting 11's without at least +335whp unless you are a great driver
i think you need more like +350whp though get a big turbo and don't look back, dom 3 is the new(er) school subaru hottness turbo that i'm all about pretty much a 30r(rotated ball bearing turbo) in a stock location form; search 3076r turbos |
