I had 60,000 miles on my built motor and had to get some things done so I had them throw in a compression/leakdown check because racecar. All values were great as I drive like a grandma, so I started thinking that 400WHP would sure be nice. And all I'd need to get there would be a better clutch and a new Hiroshima Hairdryer as the kids say. 16 sources told me the Easy Button for 93 octane 400 WHP is the Blouch 3.5XT-R, so I rolled up all my pennies and financed one like a real American. I also fell into a scam and found a legit DEI blanket for it on amazon for $40. Someone at DEI screwed up and I scored! I hollered at my buddy Dave at South Bend clutch and axed him what clutch I should get for guesstimated 400WTQ and he said the South Bend KSB03-SS-TZ Stage 3 Endurance clutch. That was installed a month or two back and for a no messing around 5MT clutch, its amazingly has a 2020 Toyota Corolla clutch feeling. its crazy....a $XXXX clutch that drives within 10% of OEM! While under the hood they found out my Power Steering pump was leaking after I had them reseal it a few months prior (Thanks Obama!). Next visit was to have the turbo installed and figure out which Power Steering pump to use as I bought both the WRX and STI ones. I have aftermarket PS lines due to swapping in a 16 STI rack and due to those lines I was able to use the "better" STI pump, which oddly, is ~$150 cheaper than the WRX pump. The lines were the key, so don't try this at home kids. So when all was done, I got a new PS pump, new turbo, and got just a touch over 400 WHP. Next step for teh wagon will be a trip up to Gaithersburg, MD to see my old pal Andrew Yates. I stumbled upon a PPG front Torsen differential for $7 and Andrew is gonna take apart likely the world's oldest PPG gearbox, shake out all the broken bits and install the differential. This should pair nicely with the Cusco 1.5 rear Andrew installed last year and hopefully cause me to torque steer into a ditch.

I don't know top speed in 4th as I'm old and it scares me. I do know that the top of 3rd is a bit north of 90MPH and that's enough for me.
No corn. My 2 bit ECU means no Cobb Flexfuel t00n and I am not dealing with the drama of fuel/map swapping even though I legit live 2 miles from an E85 pump. If Cobb magically supported it one day.....yeah.....I'd do it. But so far, they have their eyes on other prizes than to waste resources getting it to work on us old guys. |

I use Carberry with Pinguin Racing flex fuel on my 16bit. Not to hard to tune. You got plenty there to break into the 11s. I always wanted to build a 5speed.

Good post and nice setup. Haven't logged in ages and came across this post. Good to see it's still BA. If I were to build a car again, I'd love to do that trans setup. You'll love the torsen for the front.

Quote:
1. Special JE pistons 2. Mill the heads 3. Stack 32 head gaskets I used the special JE pistons designed for hybrid builds because cheaper. |

Not much as I have lots of friends and sponsors. My build would cost somewhere around $8000ish. Builds are hard to price as many leave stuff out. Like a new clutch that holds 400tq for a 5MT is $1000 alone. That turbo is north of $1500. Motor work for a hybrid is $2500 without labor. Injectors, lines, installation, add ons, tuning....lots of hidden costs in a build.

Cool deal, I almost went with the hybrid JE pistons and someone convinced me to hybrid the head chambers instead. Could have saved some cashola for sure, but it was fun and a learning experience...was bored I guess. That is good powa and stock location ftw. Any video with sound? Which walbro did you go with?

the 2.5 is the only one with the real name of polka pickle. It got that name 10+ years ago and I think everyone who knows why or how is dead.

is it some kind of phallic reference? Is it a reference to dance (doing the polka) from the increased performance causing bouts of euphoria? It is quite puzzling. Polka Pickle could have some interesting implications.
