Default stiffer than expected?

was changing brake fluid and had one jackstand 1/2 inch lower than the other 3 - the frame didn't budge... didn't touch the jackstand at all...

the frame was stiffer than I expected

My 04 Wagon is the same way. It rests on 3 jackstands, not 4. I wouldn't know this if my buddy's garage wasn't so uneven though.

maybe that's why they tell you not to use 4 jackstands. The unloaded end will push over sideways.

It could be because four jackstands is really only three (see above) and the one that supports one end of the car could be easily pushed over.

I work under my car all the time using 4 jack stands. I even push against the car to confirm it won't budge.

so you're only supposed to use 3 jackstands and then work under the car - got it

Every car that I've rotated the tires on, all I had to do was jack the car up on the side for both wheels. I don't think our Suby's are that "special."

I think this came up before and someone suggested that it was because people might not get the car up on all 4 correctly. For example, if the front is on stands and you jack up the rear without letting the jack roll, it can pull the front stands over onto two legs and make them unstable.

I agree - the subies are not special... I think most cars would do the same thing.
