Default So I say no to joining his Amway scam and now we're no longer friends

The lending money thread has me wondering about the situation that I was in about a year ago with an ex-buddy, whom I've been friends with since 1989. We where best friends and would take a bullet for each other etc. Well, last year, he gets into the Quixtar/Amway scam and asked me to join. I told him I know about the scam etc, but he still persists. So I show up, and yup have some chump telling you he is doing sooo well, drive a nice Lexus etc. I walk out after a break tell my buddy I'm taking off. I See the Lexus the guy's yapping about is a freaking early nineties Lexus POS.

After this my buddy, stops talking gives me the cold shoulder etc. Starts giving me these I need positive energy yada yada. I'm like BS, you're pissed that I didn't join your freaking Amway. So we don't talk or anything since the Amway scam

Anyone else lose a friend to retarded crap? List it here!

C/N Amway/quixtar scam makes buddy get massive amounts of sand in vagina and ends friendship

You failed him. You didn't prevent him from joining up. He's weak. Now that he's in he realizes it's a scam, but he can't let people know that he made a bad mistake, so he's trying to make it work.

Nice, been there and done that. It kinda sucks, but it's like those people have been hypnotized with a gleem in their eyes once they get an idea they can get rich.

Just had one of my brothers friend last week give his speel for some other pyramid scheme.

Your friend is just trying to surround himself with like minded people - people that are optimistic and want to make a lot of money. Haters will bring you down and drain your energy. At some point, the two of you started differing in your thoughts about money. He went his way and you go your way. No offense.

There's a difference between surrounding yourself with people who want to make money, and kicking your good friends to the curb in favor of surrounding yourself with yes-men.

Um, no. His friend was trying to coerce nos into a BS money-making scheme that requires Stepford-like mentality, mingled with desperation to make money, and fueled by desperate dreams of getting rich without doing very much, or creating anything meaningful or interesting. Good riddance, I say.

Meh, at least extend the olive branch and say something like, "well, when you finally quit Amway and come to your senses, you've got my number."

Yes-men get the jobs done. It's the pessimistic and the ones that say you can't that keep things from being done. Find a person that has a can-do attitude and you will see he succeeds more than he fails.

Let's say you're class valedictorian. Did you hang out with the guys that were ****ups or did you surround yourself with other ub3r nerds?

I've never joined amway/quixtar. I dont agree with him completely ignoring you, but I can understand if your friendship isn't an extremely close one.

You're confusing pessmism with common sense. He didn't join because it's a stupid thing to do. That doesn't inherently make him a "pessimist."

Uhhh

yeah.

You can only rip your friends off for so long before they don't want to have anything to do with you anymore. Getting a bunch of chumps to be your down-line works fine, but it ruins friendships, especially when the chumps aren't chump enough to take the bait.

There's a difference between trying to sell your friend to the devil and respecting them when they refuse and trying to sell your friend to the devil and getting pissed off when they don't go for it.

He should be surrounding himself with MORE people like nos who have the smarts to realize that the vast majority of the people in those circles don't make dollar 1, therefore nos will be financially ahead by not joining.

Quixtar is the Scientology of the business world. I actually had to fire one of our IT guys for trying to sell that **** here at work. (After multiple warnings not to.)

Last I heard, his wife was ready to leave him because he was broke and couldn't get health insurance for his kid.

All I can say is RUN AWAY. Keep in touch with your friend and ask him how he's doing periodically. Make sure he doesn't spend all his $ on seminars and tapes (that's where all the money is in that thing). I have a friend who's big in that stuff and he does make a ****load of money (from tapes and seminars).

I knew a guy who was a bf of a schoolfriend of mine. They broke up, but his men's clothing business seems pretty legit. Anyway, it closed down and he called me saying "I want to discuss a business deal with you", so I'm like "ok, sure fine come around"

and then he comes around and it was an Amway pitch. I listened to it and said no thanks, never heard from him again but boy was I embarrassed for him. Geebus.
