Default How to tell if my STi is tuned...

I bought a used 04 STi a couple of months ago. I'm getting below normal fuel consumption (around 12mpg). I have an access port under the steering wheel. Does that mean my car is tuned (Cobb?) or do all stock STis have some sort of an access port under the steering wheel? Thanks in advance.

what do u mean you have an accessport under ur steering wheel? Accessports you plug in and then unplug and put away. Even if you did have your car tuned by Cobb Tuning you would see the same and more than likely better gas mileage.

hes talking about the obd port. every car from 96+ has the obdII port.. Its a diagnostic port, not just for the access port..

Maybe you need to adjust your driving habits?

Also what boost level do you reach in 3rd and 4th gear at wide open throttle?

Some people have told me the previous owner just made it run rich...can this be done without actually tuning the car?

you are stock if you are only reaching 15psi... The previous owner most likely tuned the car, and untuned it before he sold it. Access ports and such are removable within a couple minutes. What kind of gas mileage are you expecting from a 300hp 4 cylinder?

A lot higher than 12MPG. I get 21-23 MPG in a mix 70 ***37;( HWY) 30 %( City) driving fairly aggressive.

I think OP should take the car to one of those tuners in NOVA and get it tuned.

Get a cable and pull some logs or the ROM. That'll tell you right quick.

Yep. Pulling the rom with ECUFlash would be the best, but you'd need to invest in, or borrow, a Tactrix cable and use a laptop to do it.

Once you do that step, post the rom or logs here and we could tell you pretty quick.

ps- Do you have a BOV?

How can I track down if someone has flashed an ECU when car hunting.

Open the hex file in Enginuity and look at the boost table. If it's higher than 13.5ish anywhere, it's been reflashed. There are other ways to tell too, but that should be a pretty quick way.

If you can get your hands on a stock map, you can use the compare option in ECUFlash also.

Just download a stock .hex file and compare them. That's the only way to tell if it was modified.
