Considering he has a 2003 I doubt it is fraud. The insureance company isn't going to pay him any more money if he put an STi block in and 6mt.. They are paying him for a 2003 WRX with xxx,xxx mileso on it.

I also think that this is not fraudulent. It's like putting your factory stereo back in the car before they take it away. Unless you had extra insurance for the parts you are going to swap out, it is not fraud IMHO. Just because the car was totaled while it had non-oem parts in it does not mean the insurance company has the right to the non-oem parts.

added:
The insurance company has the right to take the parts that were insured. (i.e. OEM everything)

Hypothetically, if you had an STI and dropped a 2.0L in there, THEN wrecked it, you would be OBLIGED to put an STi block back in before they take it, cause that's what they expect. Good thing swaps never happen in that direction though. =)

it was a new block, with new pistons...maybe 3000 miles on it. I have NO idea what compression would be with STI heads. Maybe CP could answer that for you?

Bump and vouch for a good guy. This is not your average "my tranny broke, I never drag race and the dealer won't fix it" type of guy.

no kidding. That's why i SPECIFICALLY said that it is an R160 with a 3.9 ring/pinion

This was in my WRX, not STI.

Anyway, car is now gone....and the tow truck took a piece of my soul with him

i have a spare r160 case and wrx rear diff...all you need is the 3.9 ring/pinion.

They woulnd't let me buy it back casue it was a fire, and i think they don't want the liability for that, so i don't see how they could auction it off...maybe just take it to a wrecking yard and pull parts out....or crush it into a cube

Chris, i have a rear sti axle you can have as a spare if you need it. If i make it out to the wednesday meet this weekend i'll bring it by.

i miss my baby already.
