Default Heel toe, Understeer, and Oversteer Corrections

Hey everyone not sure exactly where this post should go but this seemed like the right place, just let me know if I'm wrong though. I know that understeer and oversteer have been talked about numerous times, but I found these diagrams on drivingfast.net and thought they were pretty well drawn out. Hope this helps you some of the beginners out there. Also, on the pages that have the graphs there is a good description about both understeer and oversteer, the causes, and the corrections with many pretty pictures lol. Check it out, I'm sure everyone can learn something from it even if they are advanced drivers. Heel-toe link is at the bottom as well. The website also covers many other driving how-to's including rev matching, weight transfer, braking and steering.

Heel-Toe page(Just because its a great description of it ): http://www.drivingfast.net/car-contr...m#.URuvO_K_O18

1) love the flow charts, they are really cool, but honestly they are not for beginners
2) beginners should know what understeer and oversteer are but know how to correct them with driving inputs. This simply gives setup advice without really telling people why these changes will help.

I'm also a HUGE proponent of skid pads. I'm a firm believer that everyone would be much better after hours oh a skid pad. You can induce with oversteer and understeer at less than 25mph and try to correct it. Its a great tool.

that's what the links to the website were for. They have all the information on what understeer and oversteer are and how to correct them with driving inputs.

The graphs were just so that once they understand oversteer and understeer and know how to correct it with driver inputs, they can start correcting it with mechanical additions so they can modify the oversteer and understeer of their car to maintain the level that satisfies them. Either by giving it neutral balance, more oversteer or more understeer depending on their preference.

I agree with the skid pads also. they are a endlessly useful method of learning to control your car quickly, consistently, and repeatedly. plus they're easy to manipulate. make a skidpad on different surfaces and learn how your car reacts to the different surfaces. fun stuff

For beginners:

[Understeer] -> [entering corner too hot... slow down, rookie]

LOL

To cure oversteer, don't lift. Trailing throttle is a female dog... Power it out.

Actaully some pretty good articles. Might have to take print outs with me to give to new students. At the very least can use some of the diagrams/pics.

Yup that's what I thought too. They have a ton of them in there too. Breaks down the mechanics of things and explains basic concepts. A little something for everyone lol.
