the key thing is to do it slowly and evenly. C-clamps and channel locks work well, and you can buy a tool at autozone or whatever to do it. I also tend to put an old pad between the pistons and whatever I'm using.

Was looking back over this.
Anyone know anything about the RA-R, or 08 STi brakes? Oh and they have new group N rally brakes too, right? Mr. DBASteve, would you happen to have a spec sheet for the 5x114.3 294x24mm rotor that's used for rally? Also I think I'm missing some newer Legacy/Outback/08 Impreza pad shape information. |

-afaik - the 08 STi has diff brakes - larger rotors but still an 'oddball' size (not 332 x 32)
-RA-R spec-C 6 pots seem to have not made it here - i think we get a variation of the 04-07 stuff -I've sold brakes to an STi to run 'gravel' 4 pot/2 pot brakes - but i failed to keep track if it was an 04 or 05+- so I am not sure if the 'wrx sized' 1 piece rotor fits over the 5 x 114 hub with only a redrill of the 5 x 100 to the 5 x 114. I think it did though. -k |

Yeah I got a close look at an 08 sti recently and was like "hey, those brakes are different."
You can buy the RA-R brakes through japanparts. I'm pretty sure there's an 05+ gravel rotor. I should probably e-mail vtsc or rocketrally something. |

These are some pics I took last time Subaru made came out of the Bat Cave at home. AP Racing two piece rotors front and rear. 343mm fronts and 300mm rears. This is a tarmac kit naturally. 18" wheels. I'll see what specs I can post up. |

Steve, if I understand correctly, in order to mount rear brembos on my 2005 USDM LGT I would need rotors #2657 ( post 38 ) plus those special kartboy brackets, is that correct?

In front - I dunno if the hat portion of the 4650 fits over the 05+ hub. Although the 4000 - w/ it's angled sides (see dba steve's dwg's above) might be the ticket there. |

Well the rotors exist for sure. Whether or not it's a separate rotor made by Subaru for group N or if it's the same as the standard rotor but drilled 5x114.3 is the question I guess. Rallispec sells the 4/2-pots for 05+ stis.

Great compilation of info.
There are several other applications for the 290x18mm rear rotor in the JDM too. They were on late GC-GF STis with the 190mm rear hand brake and on the GG wagon STis for their brief run. They were and are on a number of upper end B4 and GT-Bs with the 170mm hand brake from 2000 on. ss |

Just to clarify, 00-04 Legacy's also use the 2 rubber lines rear-brake line like the +05 Legacy (all models, not just the LGT). All due in part to the rear multi-link suspension that was started in the 00-04's.

I should link to the rear brake redux because that has a lot of the non-us brake specs. Also it starting to look like the 08 STi brakes are not any bigger. |
