Had a 'Hiccup' - advice?
Was wondering if someone has had this problem before or knows what it could be...
I'm just driving at a fairly normal speed, when all of a sudden, my car "hiccups". The revs drop almost 1,000rpm, and feels like my car has hit a wall. This hiccup is less than a second long, and then the car drives normal as if nothing has happened. This has happened twice. My theory is air/water in the fuel lines, because it has been very cold outside and there could be possible condensation in the gas tank. Any ideas on what could have caused this, and how I could resolve this would be much appreciated!

Could it be your A/C compressor engaging ? If that's not it, I'm not sure what to tell you !

nope, not the AC. Even if it were a faulty wire or something with the A/C...it wouldn't have been that sevre.
When this "hiccup" happens, its scary...feels like my car has thrown a road or something...not that i know what that would feel like, but i'm just saying its not the slight loss in power you get from turning the AC on. Thanks though! |

Only felt something like once in someone's car with boost creep and that was under load... not driving along.

Are you driving under steady boost at the time? Could be, with the cold weather, you run knock just at the edge of operation so it pulls a lot of timing for a little while.
Its not condensation in the gas line. What mods do you have? |

My car does this when it's snowing. It feels like fuel cut, but I think it's an airflow problem. I have no idea what causes it.

TurboXS Stealth back mated to the Prodrive Axle back SPT Intake (please don't jump to conclusions and blame this as the source ) This happens under load. first time was moderate load, 2nd time i was flooring it in 2nd gear. It is random, so i cannot replicate it whenever i wish, otherwise i'd take a datalog. All my data logs look normal...just running a bit rich. |

bump!
Does anyone else have a huge problem starting their Suby in cold (below freezing) weather? It took me about 5 attempts to start my WRX this morning...just keeps cranking and cranking... would this be a battery or starter issue? |

Also, I have always heard you don't need to run colder plugs if you are on the stock td04 turbo. It sounds like you could have a coil / ignition problem since you car has problems starting too. Patrick |

My 06 wagon does this occasionally when I am driving slow 30mph or so and its snowing out. Usually I will be holding speed in 3rd gear, but under some load going up hill, and the car just bucks hard once and then is fine. Its probably happened 3 times in the last year. I've been meaning to post on here about it. Its never thrown a CEL.

it sounds like an air problem to me. That is exactly what would happen if your throttle body suddenly closed or air flow suddenly stopped or decreased significantly. It isn't the cold because everyone is saying it happens when it is snowing, not just when it is cold. My assumption is that since snow is real light that it gets sucked to the cold air easier than rain. This could cause water to be getting in and likely consfusing the ecu at some point and closing the throttle on you or decreasing gas flow significantly. This is just a theory, maybe it is ridiculous but it has to be the snow, not the cold

Not jumping to conclusions, but for lack of any other solutions perhaps try replacing the stock intake. You won't really lose any power and it might solve your problem.

Has anyone isolated this issue??
I have had my subie replicate this exact behavior at random, while under moderate load, and snowing. throws no visible cell.. |

I've had it happen a couple of times this winter as well. I have no idea what the cause of it is but it bugs the **** out of me.
Still looking for an answer. |

Did you try some dry gas, just in case it was from water in the tank. If you run the tank low condensation can build up.
