Photos of the MapDCCD Controller my brother just bought for his Bugeye with 6MT swap:
So far I am very impressed. The quality of the housing and front panel look great. It has a much smaller form factor and much nicer overall construction than the DCCDPro. It is a metal case (instead of a plastic one) and has an actual connector (instead of dangling wires). It also includes a nice built in button/knob control setup and an LED interface with custom front panel to display it all. The built in LED interface is a huge feature, IMO. And no need to pay $150 for OEM switches because the built in ones look and work great. The best part (hopefully) is the built in USB compatibility and tuning. We haven't installed it yet, but we should be doing that soon. I'll try to post up some of the wiring info once we do the install. I will also update once he has used it for a while and hopefully tried doing some custom DCCD maps for it.

It is in and running. My brother had e-mailed you with some issues which turned out to be the e-brake signal reversed and the included USB cable not working. Once we swapped to a new USB cable and switched the e-brake signal it is working great. I really like the button/knob/light interface and the small form factor. The computer interface is excellent as well and there are tons of options. Overall I'm very impressed.

FYI we have just released a firmware update today that has a few cool updates.
Most notable is the overall the software speed is much faster. Upload and download speeds are waaaay quicker than previous. Following a few requests we have also added an option so that you can change the mounting orientation of the controller to just about any way you like. You can download the software from www.mapdccd.com and check it out All new controllers will be sent with this latest firmware. All existing controllers will self update to the new firmware the next time you connect with this latest software. |

MapDCCD is leagues better in my opinion. I have seen DCCDPro failures more times than I want to think about and the control is always intermittent.

For me there are a few tangible reasons that MapDCCD is better. First is overall fit and finish. The DCCDPro is a plastic off-the-shelf enclosure. It's quite large, and overall feels very cheap. Secondly, the wires are all connected internally to the case. They cannot be removed without opening up the case. This is a pain for installing and working on the unit. The MapDCCD has a socketed connector which works great. It also has a metal enclosure with a custom faceplate. Overall a much nicer looking product. Honestly one looks home made, and one looks professional.
DCCDPro Plastic Enclosure: MapDCCD Metal Enclosure, Socketed Connection, Custom Faceplate: Two other big things are the visual interface, and the controls. The DCCDPro normally comes with a really crappy-looking Radioshack-type knob for control. To get the OEM controls it costs $150! (about 3x dealer cost). I was suckered into paying this $150 because it come pre-wired. It turns out the wiring isn't long enough and I had to completely re-wire the thing anyways! It is another $65 if you want STI cluster interface, $50 for left foot braking options, and $100 for a USB tuning kit! You're nickle and dimed to death with this kit. And if you don't have an STI cluster you are left with ZERO optical feedback of what the controller is doing, unless you decide to DIY some LED's into your dash. Very poor options, IMO. The MapDCCD has controls and LED indicators built into the nice custom faceplate. For free! It also comes with full tuning ability! You can adjust anything you would like. And not just crappy scaling parameters like DCCDPro (that you have to pay for anyways), but real adjustments. You can also load multiple maps and switch on the fly. DCCDPro's $150 OEM Controls (which I had to completely re-wire anyways): MapDCCD with Controls, LED's, and USB Connections Built In: The DCCDPro I had seemed to work fine (although without any visual indication it was actually hard to tell when it was even doing anything), but I think the MapDCCD is a much nicer product. For me to consider the DCCDPro again it would have to see some significant design upgrades, or a drop in price to about half of what it currently is. As it stands the MapDCCD is a much better value. |

Ive installed a few of the MAP units and a bunch of the DCCDPro units. Though the DCCDpro works well I push the MAP unit on those that ask my opinion...

This unit works and looks great. I had it installed with my 6 speed swap. A very reputable shop in So Cal recommends this over the dccdpro because of its great tuning capabilities

I edited some of your post out of the quote to save space. Anyway, WOW. Thank you so much for that! I have been knocking back and forth on which controller to buy, so far it seems MapDCCD is just the better buy! Amazing reply, very very much appreciated. |

I am interested in this unit for my WRX swapped RS with an 05 STi 6spd swap. I autocross the car and it makes around 300whp... nothing special.
This unit looks awesome as far as the tuning capabilities and real time view but I would also like to use the OEM auto/manual switch and the DCCD readout on my v5 cluster. Essentially, treat it as a hidden unit like the OEM controller with the tuning cable coming out from under the seat or something. Will this unit be able to handle that? I have read what I can, and cant seem to find a definitive answer on these two subjects. Maybe I missed something? Last edited by ryanr; 11-21-2013 at 06:49 AM. |

I don't think the auto/manual switch will work since I think its only used to switch from oem Controller to mapdccd controller. The oem wheel will work and you can use that to switch your mapdccd from manual/auto/1/2/3/4maps. I could be wrong but that's how mine is setup.

If this controller could integrate with the OEM cluster readout and use OEM switches just like the stock controller, I'd be ordering one right now. Must have the factory look. (Bugeye with 6mt; no OEM DCCD controller.)
Any chance of these features becoming available soon? I really want to get a controller before snow happens, but I don't want to buy a DCCDpro just to avoid waiting. |

This would be a good feature for the MapDCCD controller. If you could integrate the stock STI controls that would be my preference. I personally don't like the looks of it stuck anywhere in the dash, it looks ghetto, nice ghetto but still ghetto!
My DCCDPro install is stealth and it work perfectly. The switch light intensifies with the amount of DCCD controll just as it does with the oem STI controller. |

I like my map dccd controller and how it's mounted. I think it looks killer.
Plus with the option of having the leds display lockup ratio I get all the indication I want. I do agree it would be cool to use factory knobs and switches, but I don't mind getting to put little coin trays in those slots on my console. which reminds me.... I hate where the factory knobs are located.

I agree that it could be nice for the small number of people using the OEM STI cluster in the swap. For people just using the switches OEM in the center console it's pretty much worthless. They are fine for switching (within the very limited things you can actually change with the DCCDPro) but as an indicator it's horrible.
To me the DCCDPro is just more money for far less features and lower build quality. The only "positive" is a very subjective aesthetic issue. And the only reason it can use that control scheme is due to lack of features. I do agree it would be nice to have that option for people who want it but it would likely add more cost and is an inferior interface overall (one less input). I am totally on board with Maxwell Power. I think it looks way better with this setup and has way more functionality. |

I agree that the led output of the MapDCCD is nice to see what going on but you better not be looking at that while your gettin after it. I don't have my stock controls mounted in the center console, I could have put them in the same location as the STI (seat heaters) or the center console ash tray area but I don't like those choices either. I mounted mine left of the steering wheel in the stock knock outs next to the fog lights. I can galnce at it and see it's working but I don't really look at it.
I have no doubt the build quality and functionality is better on the MapDCCD compared to the DCCDPro but I still don't like the way it looks! It's more **** to clown up a well done cockpit just as a pillar gauge mounts are so yesterday! Give me a more stealth/ integrated readout and stock controls and I'll buy one and ditch the DCCDPro! |

OK. So you're taking looks over functionality. Not what I would choose but I guess I can understand. Same as how people slam and stance their cars. Not for me but some people seem to like it.
