Probably because they've been replaced.
Still a good deal, though.

They come out with a new tire design every 2 years, I think.

My comment about the 2 year gap was meant to be facetious. I think they transitioned from the Wintersport M3 to the 3D around 2006. The M3 was an excellent tire.

In either case, I have no problem whatsoever running a closeout or discontinued snow tire. Whatever the advantages are of the 4D, to me it's not worth the additional premium.

The 4d's are only available in limited sizes currently. Time is the 4th D so those new tires allow you to time travel.

I think this is a good point. Most snow tires available in the last few years have been, and will continue to be totally adequate.

This isn't a summer tire where we're trying to shave tenths off autocross runs or laptimes, so having the latest, in my opinion, isn't as important as just having a good winter with deep tread.

I'm perfectly happy with my Arctics. Likely when these wear out I'll try something new, but I won't be holding out for the 'next big thing' as I was happy with my iPikes from 5 or 6 years ago.

I've got the snows for my Tacoma all ready to go once the season starts. I'm trying out the Hankook I-Pike RW11s. I still need to finish up fixing/painting my ASAs for the STi. Even though it won't see winter, I don't want it to sit on the summer tires in the garage all winter.

Plus, the OEM 2008+ Dunlops are stupid noisy. I long for my old ContiExtremeContacts on my 17" BBS wheels.

Just got some Hankook Ice Bears. Can't wait till snow comes so I can see how good this preforms. This winter will be my first AWD Car! (And I'm betting it will preform better then my old 350z with the Ice Bears!)

two weeks ago I was insane though.

yeah, no desire to be "needing" to put them on. this IS New England and all.

ETA: my commute 2 - 3 days a week was more than enough of a motivator as well.

Not in MA but the flurries started this week, Washington has enough snow a couple observers made turns yesterday. With the 32° morning looks like I need to get the winters on sooner than later.

Anyone else feel like a set of winter tires will last around ten years? I've had mine four winters and they still look brand new with minimal tread wear. As long as the rubber doesn't rot/dry out and start cracking.
