New Air Intake Sys?
I have seen this around the internet but I've never heard anybody talk about it. If anyone has any information about this intake system PLEASE tell me.

Other than the filter, that looks just like the Weapon*R Hyper intake. I've got one in my 98, and it works just fine (so far). I bought mine from SPO Motorsports.

I installed my Weapon-R intake myself... simple job, only takes about 30 minutes, but the instructions that come with it aren't very clear and what I've noticed with the Weapon-R kits is that they barely give you enough hose. Also, it was kinda tricky finding a spot to mount the bracket (which is kinda flimsy by the way) so the intake doesn't move around. I guess it sounds like I'm complaining, but I do love the intake! |

buyer beware
Stay away from that intake. Someone on IS300.net posted the same question and everyone was in agreement that the intake was worthless. Apparently this intake fits any car.......which is complete BS. Do a search on ebay for IS300 intakes and you will get the same photo. Stick with something you know or you'll be plagued by CEL's and poor performance. That's my advice.

Just a note to people that are adding aftermarket intakes. Make damn sure that it is mounted securely. Excess vibrations will kill the MAF sensors in a heart beat.
Trust me....after chasing an intermittant problem for a year, and $300 for a new sensor.....I know.... |

FYI- Blown MAFs due to CAI plagued mainly the Impreza world not Legacies. RSs came with film MAFS that were very sensative to Manifold resonation. After installing the CAI a lean out condition would occur because of the resonation at higher RPMs. Eventually it would break the film. Legacies came with Hot Wire Mafs which are !!!!WAAYYY!! more durable.
My Weapon R has been installed since early 2000. I haven't had any problems. I would suggest getting a very beefy bracket to mount the intake and prevent too much vibration. Brad |

Of course some of us are not plagued with MAF sensors... ... and regarding aftermarket intakes: from my research a while ago, it seemed that any but the high-end ones (cobb tuning) cause an unbearable loss of low-end torque. I personally just pulled all of the intake silencers off, and run with a K&N in the stock airbox and it works great. Just my 2€ A |

To tell you the truth, all I'm really looking for is the sound. I've read up on taking the silencer off, but im still kinda scared to do it myself.
How hard is it? |

It's easy as hell. I did it in about 15 minutes on my car. There was about 2 less bolts on mine then there was on my friends RS 2.5.... The hardest part was figuring out where the bolts were. And how to get to them.

Sorry I'm late. I'm just getting back on here for the first time since yesterday. The install wasn't really a problem, like Cajual said. The instructions were a little vague, but I don't remember having a problem with the hoses being short. My biggest hassle was removing the brackets that held the second airbox (up by the manifold). I removed the bolts down on the gearbox casing, and had to get them from underneath the car. The passenger side was a little hard to reach, and was real tight. I broke my ratchet on that one, but it was due anyway.
Good luck with your search. I was waiting for RalliSpec to make one (they had in the past, but said there wasn't enough demand to produce them anymore), or Cobb Tuning to come up with one for us. But with the WRX here now, everyone seems to be putting all their effort into that car. I can't say that I've noticed any loss of low-end torque. Maybe I need my butt-dyno calibrated . I hate to sound r*i*c*e, but it sure is purty, even if it doesn't really do anything for performance. Rich |

Say good bye to low-end torque with that Intake. I would strongly suggest retaining all of the stock torque reserves and intake tubing. Also, with an open, exposed cone filter like that, you may actually lose HP instead of gain it. This is because our engines generally run on the hot side, and open intakes will just suck hot air from the engine bay into the car's intake. In almost every test (that I have read) conducted by reputable sources, improved panel filters that retaint the stock boxes, or cone filters that are heat-shielded, produced the best HP gain. I personally replaced the stock air box with a shielded cone filter that draws directly from the fender wall, just like the stock filter did.
I have read some nasty reviews about that exact intake by the Impreza guys in the NA forum. You may want to do a search. Hope this helps. Jacob |
