Subaru Vintage Garage: 1998 Impreza 22b STI
Watch the video on subiesport.tv

There are only two genuine 22Bs in the United States. The first, owned by Heuberger Motors in Colorado, is a track-only vehicle due to extensive modifications. The second is in Subaru of America's private collection. As part of Subaru's ongoing Vintage Garage video series, Subaru PR Manager Dominick Infante gives us a rare, up close look at their prized 1998 22B STI.

so they made the 4/2 pots like the 06/07's and put them on this 98?

same calipers? hmmmm wonder why the new GR's have sliding calipers.

badass!

^Not sure where you've been the last 15 years but Subaru equipped those 2/4 pot calipers for all GC8's (in STI trim). The 22B got red ones is all. Subaru started equipping WRX with them on stateside cars in 06/07 with a slightly redesigned version (without the raised "Subaru" lettering). New GR's have them b/c of low cost and serviceability.

The rep: Dominick Infante also clears up whats been in many debates: the name "22B" is a combination for the 2.2 liter engine and the internal code for Turbo. Isn't that something.

Subaru use to bring the 22B pretty much everywhere that they had an event going on during 2008 to 2010'ish.

While most people ignored it, I drooled over it:

It's great to see Subaru putting the time and effort into remember such a wonderful piece of machinery.
The 22B also shows that Subaru was way ahead of it's time and was fully aware of it at the time by only offering a handful of these.

Oh and MSRP for one of them was around: $43,000

No way, looks like they did some filming in Tyler State Park. I went there all the time as a teenager and still go back every so often. I even proposed to my fiance there. Too bad I didn't know about this.

Why not bring this chassis back and make it the new STI? Let the WRX go with the flow of the new current design and take the STI toward a different direction all together?
