I have an 09 2.5i with an 09 wrx exhaust, K&N drop-in filter, and a Kartboy SS. I don't drive hard, but I drive alot and I haven't really been happy with this transmission. I've never driven a car that has a clutch with a different engaging point EVERY time u shift. The stock shifter's throws were madd long, so I got the Kartboy SS which feels better. I'm going to grab a stronger clutch and bushing and see what that does. Car has 23,000 miles.

1992 Legacy / 275k / stock/ great
1998 RS / 175k / stock / great until I sold it, and they blew it 1999 RS / 175k / stock / still using it 2003 WRX / 35k / stock / great when I sold it 2006 WRX / 45k / stock / great, and I still DD it The only transmission I have ever owned that was strong enough to launch it the 6spd. Please note that all the cars I have owned have won an autoX, rallyX, or both many times. I have been around for at least one Hoppe tranny blowing. - brian |

And just to contribute: 2008 WRX 45K miles 30K at stage 2 3k at 370whp/320wtq I'd say about 1200 of those are track miles. Tranny and diff fluids swapped after EVERY track day. I also have the cusco solid motor/ tranny mounts, which should help keep things aligned better, but transfers more shock to the gearbox/ motor. Still original clutch, holding fine, and tranny is going strong. Last edited by 08WhiteRex; 09-21-2010 at 10:44 AM. |

Note: 1999 RS 5MT is having issues.
Reason: Previous user short shifter and lightened fly wheel. Note: Let's see how long it lasts, and going back to stock. - brian |

I had a 2008 WRX that I leased. I put 24k mi on it with Cobb stage II. I took it to several track days, shifted it regularly at 6000+rpm into 2nd and 3rd gear and never had a single issue with it.
90% of the broken 5spd gearboxes around here are driver based. I broke the gearbox in my 2000 2.5RS with a blistering 200chp in the car. I repeat, I broke the gearbox. The gearbox didn't just break. |

Not looking for brakestands or tokyo drift, just saying that the tires should give a little before the RPMs go sailing because the clutch is slipping. Anyways, brought the car in to have my clutchmasters stage 2 checked out and it turns out it was glazed, after 1800 miles. And in another fun turn of events it was a SPEC clutch they sent, not a clutchmasters. Vendor is taking it back for full refund. I went back to stock clutch and flywheel and I am not looking back. Grab is fine, and no more grinding on deceleration in every gear (just 2nd gear the way this 5mt always seems to). Just remembered this thread is about transmissions. |

I don't know how you guys are doing this. I love slipping my clutch (to avoid destroying my transmission) and I have never burned up a clutch. I think somebody already said this, but a lot of times this might ...er...be driver error?

2009 WRX @35000 Miles. Stage1 from 100 miles till 29000miles. Stage2 from 29000 miles on. I had an issue at 26000 miles with my 3rd gear selector fork. Dealer concluded it to be bent. Dealer replaced it for free and during the process I got to see the internals of the tranny. Syncros and gears looked pristine.
I currently have a large TMIC on a stage2 tune and the car feels like it puts down a fair amount of power. I try my best not to get on the throttle until fully engaged in gear. I never mash thru gears. Especially shifting from 1st to 2nd under full acceleration, I'll take my time with the engagement. Other tranny modification currently on the car: Perrin Shifter Bushing, Perrin Adjustable Short Shifter (set in the shortest possible throw setting), Group N Transmission Mount, Whiteline Positive Shift Kit Crossmember Bushings, Torque Solutions Pitch Stop Mount. I'm well aware of the risk braking the transmission so I know my limits. I dont have some crazy unreasonable expectations form the stock 5mt. When I purchased the car, I knew damn for sure that It aint no STI 6MT. So far no complaints what so ever. Another thing to note is, at 30000 miles, I checked my tranny oil level, and it was low by a tad bit. I topped it off with Penzoil Syncromesh. Immediately after adding the syncromesh I was able to feel a definite difference. I can feel the syncros lining up the next gear quicker by a good amount. It has made shifting during aggressive driving feel a bit safer. Most definitely feels a lot less notchy. I honestly had no idea that the Syncromesh would make that big of a difference. Was in quite a shock when I took the first ride after adding it. Last edited by fulltimeW.O.T.; 10-02-2010 at 07:35 PM. |

could be... but i couldn't tell you what i'm doing wrong.. maybe the granny shifting? seems easier on the car than slamming it around... but i've been wrong before.

Transmission is still humming along just fine (32k), sounds like all of them are (with the exception of the guy with blown first, sucks man, sounds like it could have been a defect (I hope) and hopefully they will take care of you). So, knock on wood but it sounds like they are holding up under power so far... So far... |

2009 WRX w/14,000 miles. Shifts well, with the exception of an occasional unpleasant rubbing feeling when going into 3rd, like the side of the shifter is hitting something. Having that checked out by dealer soon, will replace oil w/Extra S at the same time.
Edit to say that I am fully stock, with the factory short shifter. Last edited by PraetorianGuard; 11-04-2010 at 01:21 AM. |

I just noticed the post at the top saying that he (Imprezzedwitsubies) has a different engament point on the clutch every time he shifts. That is a new one...I've never had that problem on any car...driver error? |
