Here are the part numbers i have for my 05 LGT (same as wrx, I think) which of these needs to be updated to the superseded (redesigned) numbers?
The tech on the phone said something about the 806322050 changes to 080.
Is that right? Any others?

any help would be great.

My main concern is the burnt discoloration on my center differential. Before I took it all apart there was no clunking or banging in tight turns.
Is there any way to test the differential, FSM says nothing about the procedure.

Thanks
Some of them look that way. I think it's from the hardening process after they cut the splines into them. Nothing wrong with it.

The only difference I got was 806330110 went to new part # 806330120. Where did you get these prices from? These are cheaper than what I paid last week and mine where the cheapest I could find?

Need help fast!

pulled the tranny on my 05 LGT today and found that yes the center diff bearings are shot. I also found that both sets of gears are missing teeth and the diff itself looks bad. I plan to crack the trans and check it as well.

I need the whole extension assembly including diff. Does anyone have any leads or know of the best place to look?

I may need the trans too ill let you know.

If I need to be posting in a LGT specific thread or forum, sorry, I've just found this thread to be the most resourceful.

Cheap? I was quoted $425 for new ones. But if you can find a used set they can get pretty cheap

Apparently you either don't know what the word relatively means or you don't have a clue how expensive everything forward of that is to replace.

& yes, the way i meant it is the parts are plentiful in the second-hand market & extras are laying around at most make-specific shops.

Thank you everyone who contributed to this thread. I just replaced these 4 bearings on my 2004 WRX, and it was fairly easy thanks to the input here.

I am new to this site. I have a 03 WRX & I'm having a slip problem. It would feel like a clutch slip, but here is the twist, the speed goes up as the rpms go up. Car accelerates very slow. It was random a couple months ago, yesterday it was the whole drive to work and back home. Car goes places, but on the way home I started to get noises and some clunking from the trans area. I feel its the center diff or about there. I changed the diff fluid 6,000 miles ago, no metal on the plug. I am willing to take the tail section out of the car. I'm very mechanically inclined, but after reading this post, I get wet feet and think I don't want to do this alone. Any insight on this is appreciated.

Is it a manual or auto? That sounds more like the clutch packs in an auto tranny...

Manual Trans - Stock 5 Speed. Wish it was auto, would just send it to the tans shop and be done with it.

What year transmission are these part numbers for? I ordered all the bearings to replace them and 3 of the 4 bearings were wrong parts. Those three part numbers were canceled and referred to another part number #. I have an 02 wrx trans
Edit* I found these bearing do fit! They were deferred to another design of bearings so visually they looked different. Got 2 of 4 bearing installed myself, hopefully one of the machine shops around here can get the rest.

Successful! Great thread! I would of had to drop a lot of money for the 6 speed swap. The transmission I installed was missing the large diameter bearing on the center diff all together. So I'm lucky nothing broke while I drove it.

The only one it doesn't work for is the big bearing on the center diff.

Good luck!

did not work on the below bearing for me. What did you guys use to pull this bearing?

Edit- did work, i didnt think i could pull from the flange. Thats exactly what i ended up doing, worked great. Waiting for my Ultra Grey to cure and then to see if i was successful or not.

You don't need a puller for that bearing. There is only a snap ring holding it on.

negetive on the above response. The bearing is "pressed" on. The snap ring doesnt hold the bearing in place on the shaft.
I have 5mt rear shafts with bearings etc in classified if needed.

I think he meant that you don't need a press. It hammers on/off without much force.

Full of ****. Haha atleast for me. Hammered the hell out of that thing and it didn't budge. Also, much safer for the gear teeth to use a puller then a possible accidental blow and a chipped gear tooth. Then your day is REALLY ruined.

Just bought my stethoscope and looks like I am now in the center diff boat as well. It appears that most of you are WRXers and I have a 2005 LGT. With all the new and updated part numbers, can anyone direct me to correct part numbers for my car?

Update:

Looks like I found correct items:

806230170 BALL BEARING $29.23

806255010 BALL BRG 55X80X13 $33.88

806322080 ROLL BRG 22X56X17 $30.94

806330120 ROLL BRG 30X62X17 $26.87

Sub Total: $120.92

If any of these look wrong, please let me know.

So my wrx started making some tranny noises and it sounds like its coming from the back of the tranny. I cannot hear it at all in first and second gear, can kinda hear it in third, can definitely hear it in fourth, and fifth is the loudest. One other thing I noticed is if I push the shift knob when in fourth or fifth gear the whine gets louder (it does inside the cabin but I can't really tell if it makes it louder outside of the car). My question to you guys that replaced these four bearings, did the whine get louder as you went into higher gears without speeding up. For example I speed up to 40 mph and from third to fifth the fifth gear is loudest, oh and the whine disappears when I let the throttle off. Thanks to all of you.

i had a noise a lot like you describe. tore off the transfer case and bearings were fine. ended up being the snout bearing on the rear diff. sound conducted through the driveshaft and appeared to be coming from the tranny...

ps. the only way i found it was to put everything back together, get the car up on 4 jackstands, start it up, put it in gear, and CAREFULLY climb underneath with a stethescope.

So I got 3 of 4 bearings replaced and i'm waiting on the fourth one because subaru didn't have it in stock. You don't need a hydraulic press to do this, but the harbor freight puller will be needed or something like it. To install the bearings I put the shafts in the freezer for a couple of hours and used a heat gun to heat up the bearings right before I pulled the shafts out of the freezer and used a wooden block and a hammer to "press" the bearings on. Before I put everything together I was wondering how do you check for clearances/play to choose the proper shims? my tranny is in the car. Also the parts diagram that subaru gave me lists three adjusting washers, one that I never had one in my car which is supposed to go behind the ball bearing that is secured by four 6mm hex bolts.
