Noob Question on 04 STi
I am not really a mod kind of person , and ive been doing alot of research on mods I can do for the 04 STi , but my question is where do you start? What minor mods do you do first? like BOV , Intake(cold air) or whatever? and what brands are the best for the STi? Im looking to gain more power so the STi goes faster.

First thing you should do (IMHO) is exhaust. Bigger injectors, turbo...none of it will do you much good unless you open up the exhaust.
Get a nice turbo-back (remove both cats) and then think about larger turbo/injectors/ECU. Vishnu already has a stage 1 that will bring you to 375 hp but it's expensive. I would'nt waste my $ on a BOV or cold air intake yet. You could look into a lightened flywheel and/or crank pulley. Thankfully alot of mods that fit on a WRX will also fin an STi so you already have a lot to choose from. |

BOV is for nothing but sound (until you up the boost over ~20psi). An intake will give small gains. Your best bet is to get a catless down pipe to replace the stock (and very restrictive) down and mid pipes. Some people are having boost creep problems though. Other than that maybe put on a front mount IC and wait for engine management.
Turbo XS, and Vishnu are both great brands and have done alot of research and tuning. |

I'm waiting for engine management - downpipe, midpipe and catback can cause the STi to throw check engine lights, reduce low end torque etc. It's not worth waisting your money on until some engine management is available for the STi - hopefully in a couple more months for Vishnu and Turbo XS. Look in the 2.5 engine thread or try a search - you'll see all the issues people are having modding the STi without engine management.
I'm waiting for Vishnu stage 1 for the STi - won't be long. |

Two days ago I was talking to Sam from www.xcceleration.com. They've got a staged kit WITH engine management that boasts 430hp. They've sold several dozen kits and no one has had any issues yet. I think the kit includes: Intake, TBE exhaust, 4-2-1 headers.. I'm not sure what else.
