I think I stuck a huge wire nut on there and used old fashion electrical tape on top of that for that gob of wires.

So in your picture, the tube at the bottom won't work.

You want a tube around the two wires at the upper-left. Or change the tube at the bottom to include the wire going off to the right.

Slide the HS far enough away so that it doesn't start shrinking while you're soldering.

Here's a good guide I found on how to twist and solder wires together:
http://www.whoolie.com/solder.htm
To join more than 2, start with the first two as shown there, and then spiral each additional wire around the initial junction, ending up with all wires parallel. Remember to slide heat shrink over all of the wires on one side before you start. Then solder the whole set together at one time.
Thanks for the tips--very helpful. I did my best to do it the way you describe. I started with the large ground from the pioneer harness and twisted it parallel with the black ground from your harness. I then weaved the other 3 wires into place around that connection. It was kind of hard to not have smalls stands separate by the time I got to the 5th wire though.

The wire that looks like it will make the heatshrink not work is not in its final position in this picture--I just moved it there to better show the 5-way connection. It is the ground from the solid state bypass and it's going to move up to the left so that it's parallel with the rest of the wires (some of the insulated wire will be in the heatshrink...I hope that's not an issue). I chose a larger tube size for this junction and I think I will be able to get it over the connection after soldering. There is also more room to the bottom right to slide the tube out of the way. I'll take more pictures after i start soldering.

I will probably start my own thread, but I wanted to update my previous post with a couple of pictures. SVXdc's guides are as good as they get, but I think pictures like these would have helped a first timer like myself visualize everything.

I got all of the "dry" connections done while I wait for my soldering iron to arrive on Monday. There are 4 "items" that need to be connected in one way or another. The orientation in the picture below is as follows:

1. Upper-left: Axxess ASWC-1 (purchased from SVXdc)
2. Left: Pioneer Harness (comes with the head unit)
3. Right: 20-pin forward harness (purchased from SVXdc)
4. Lower-right: Parking brake bypass (purchased on ebay)

http://i.imgur.com/Srjpgu2l.jpg

I cleaned up the 5-way ground connection a little bit:

http://i.imgur.com/DVwT93Cl.jpg

Parking brake bypass' orientation and heatshrink. The white harness on the bottom is SVXdc's 20-pin forward.

http://i.imgur.com/iSuZA5Xl.jpg

A lot of unused wires from the ASWC-1:

http://i.imgur.com/B1mUot3l.jpg

I stripped an extra 1/4 - 1/2" from most of the wires. This seemed to make the twisting connections easier, but I'm sure it will leave me with a lot more soldering to do.

http://i.imgur.com/lBei8dvl.jpg

A couple of questions:

This is how I wired the parking brake wire from the pioneer harness to the bypass (it came with the red clamp pictured above by default). I figured I would leave most of the wire intact in case I needed to run it in a legit way to my parking brake for some reason. Am I better off shortening this so it goes straight from the pioneer harness to the bypass?

http://i.imgur.com/0X8caEPl.jpg

Lastly, I leave these two wires disconnected correct?

http://i.imgur.com/yZZoiyhl.jpg

Thanks.

1. I'd say closer to the harness but not by much

2. You can leave those two unused unless you would like to do as others and install a rear view camera for parking.

I ended up reusing the parking brake wire and repurposed most of it for reverse gear sensing and left a decent amount for the bypass.

Can anyone confirm the newer Pioneer HU's work with both the SirusXm unit installed along with the Axxess control units?

The Pioneer AVH-X 3500 and similar units are having issues running both things simaltaneously. http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVH-X3...owViewpoints=0

I'd really like to pick one of these up but am afraid this issue won't be resolved.

Finally had time to complete my harness and I'm going to install my AVH-X5500BHS tomorrow.

I assume that the new harness will connect to the factory harness and no other connections from the old head unit will connect to the new unit? In other words, I know that there will be multiple other items to disconnect from the back of the stock unit (stock BT mic, etc.). None of these will plug into the new pioneer, correct?

The other factory connections will just be left loose behind the new unit.

I ordered the X5500BHS with the Axxess-1 and Sirus all from amazon. We'll see if the problem with the combo working together is present. If so, it's going back and I'm back to the drawing board.

I have a love hate relationship with pioneer. They do some awesome stuff, but they also make incredibly stupid decisions at times. My home receiver is awesome but even an engineer (me) struggles to use it.

EDIT: Erm, wow. It would help if I plugged the antenna wire into the back of the new unit--Nevermind!

Can anyone send me the original bluetooth firmware for the AVH-P4400BH? I had an iPhone so I updated the firmware. I now have a Galaxy S4 and once again the metadata does not display via bluetooth. I assume I need to revert back to the original firmware, but I don't have a copy and can't find it on the net.

Never mind. Pioneer support just told me that it is impossible to roll the firmware back. So... that SUCKS.

He said there was no way to roll the firmware back. I asked if copying the original firmware files back to the unit woupd work and he said no. The only way it will work now is if the updated format is used by my S4.

It isn't the s4, afaik they broke that feature in 4.2 and have not fixed it yet. I just don't understand exactly what they did because it worked in pretty much every android version until 4.2

The ASWC-1 may need a firmware update. What version does it have? (see last 3 digits of long number on the sticker before the date)

I've been talking to Crutchfield to see what I can do with my 2014 Hatch. Since they don't have access to one they can't confirm that the SB-K926 In-dash Receiver Kit that works with the 2013 will work with a 2014. Can anyone confirm that it will fit?
