Default Speakers

I would recommend rockford fosgate for rap and dub-step
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575T165...=T#details-tab

I would recommend jl or focal for smooth, jazz like clarity

I would recommend alpine for bright highs and the silk dome tweeters they come with
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SPR6...pr60c&skipvs=T

Wire a 4 channel amplifier to them for clarity and mid bass
(Three levels of quality, price)

Alpine has a small amp that goes in the dash for a simple, but effective upgrade. This is popular
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTP4...ower-Pack.html

Alpine makes a great 4 channel amp (which I have owned and loved. Had it on the rockford speakers recommended above and was very happy)
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500MRXF...e-MRX-F35.html

Alpine makes (I, and others online believe) the cleanest amp out there. (Personally better then the hd series by jl)
It's 100watts a channel, more importantly the signal processor inside is amazing. Very clean sound. This amp would bring any speaker to its full potential.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500PDXF...dx_f4&skipvs=T

I would start with this. If u feel you want more bottom end, an underseat sub, kenwood makes a good one, then install it after.

Hope that helps u save time

I can only add 10 pictures of else there would be more. I have pictures of the original tweeter and then final install. I just pushed the wires from the tweeter crossover into the existing stock connector and then taped it on. Pretty damn solid.

Thanks man! Very happy with the Focal speakers for sure. The big question is the Head Unit right now. I feel the biggest limitation in functionality is the head unit.

You can edit your second post to add the additional pictures.

All that was needed to plug and play was the Toyota to Subaru USB adapter.

Yep all steering wheel controls out of the box.

I've never been much of a fan of the Pioneer stuff myself. I've always liked Alpine for being more about the quality of the sound. To me Pioneer has always been more about the interface and cool looking features than anything else.

I'm going to do my best to hold out and see what else comes along later this year as far as Carplay. Anyway, good luck with the install. Keep us posted on how it turns out.
Have you used one of the newer LCD-screen double DIN head units? The interface does seem kind of slow based on the videos I have seen of them.

If only worst buy actually had the units I wanted functional and on display in the store...

So I have don't quite a bit of listening, it does sound substantially better, but I think most will be on the same page as I am... its lacking weight at low volumes. Obviously when you turn it up loud enough to get the weight you want to hear in the music its distorted because of the lack of available power in the OEM HU.

Hopefully an aftermarket HU will provide enough power and then I will have the audio portion of the modding complete (for now).

I have not used the newer high end units but I did about a year ago when I bought my X7HD. At that time the iPhone 5 connection was about 5 adapters to get it to "work" and the interface was very clunky. Other than that, I've mainly just been reading reviews and watching YouTube video reviews. I'm sure they've fixed it some since then but I don't know personally.

Ok so lots of research and a 600 mile road trip later.

Get an amp!

Actually found a great installer that sells/installs Arc amps.

Going with a 5 Channel Arc 1100W amp and an Arc sub. (Yes, I know full circle).
Decided to pass on Pioneer, did some research there and not impressed. CarPlay or not, its not really focused on what matters, SQ.

So waiting on the Alpine CarPlay HU.

That is my current update, amp install will be done on 6/20. Pics will follow shortly.

I will be picking up my 15 with H/K upgrade and was wondering what the chances of leaving all the speakers and the amp that is included for them but replacing the subwoofer and adding an amp just for that? From what I hear the HK sub doesn't have much bass but I like the sub location as I don't want it to take up any trunk space. I was contemplating going with a JL 8" something awesome. Lol

Could you please get measurements on the hole depth, and screw hole dimensions?
I'd really like to transfer over my Rockford Fosgates from my old car, but haven't picked up my WRX just yet.

I have 5x8 and 5x9.

If the speaker clears the hole, but the mounting screws don't line up I am going to laser cut an adapter.

That being said, if you need a custom adapter for speakers, HU, or amplifier, I can laser cut one for you.

I opted to stay with my stock head unit on my 2015 STI. My issue is today I went and got my AMP installed with a HI-LO like I did in my 2013 Civic SI same place and all. But this head unit acts strange when I turn it up it turns the amp off tried it with 2 different amps same thing, has anybody else had this issue any recommendations on what I should do? I will say this the only difference that was done this time from last time the remote was connected through the HI-LO and not the stock head unit like it was on my SI.

The hole is a 5" circle. It might be slightly over 5" but certainly not 8 or 9 inches.

Decided to install an amp after all, will be having a local shop do it so it is done right. Did quite a bit of research and this is the clear winner, over JL/Alpine/RF/etc. Go big or go home. The shop is also putting in a 10" sub as well! Next friday, expect pictures!

Ok, so the Focal speakers are just too bright... going to take a look at other options. Hopefully Crutchfield will help me out with the exchange.

Was thinking maybe another option is a Alpine Type-R component up front and coaxial in the rear. OR Buy two pairs of components and only put the woofers in the rear. Thoughts?

Crutchfield has buy one get one 50% off on alpine speakers right now.

The reason I'm limited to crutch field is because I have the credit there from the Focals.

Thanks in advance.
