hey I live in WA too and as for the extended warranty from Subaru YOU CAN PURCHASE from anywhere within U.S.

my dealer said okay.

IF YOU REALLY NEED to get it from WA, then Dick Hannah Subaru (it's in Vancouver, WA) offered best for me. ( I emailed Carter, Hanson, Auburn, Renton, couple of Spokane, and Dick Hannah) 7yr 100k 0 deductible for $1587 + tax.

BUT I got it from Joe at ROTO. so much cheaper and no tax

as for the Joe @ Carter Subaru in Seattle, I sent email couple of times but never got response, I don't like calling just because I want to track stuff. anyways they quoted me 7 yr 100k 0 deductible for $2190

I received a letter from SOA recently. I did not purchase any extended warranty when I purchased car new. Offer is 3 plans: All pay both parts and labor - Provides towning and rental car allowances - Repairs performed by factory techs w/ genuine Subaru Parts. Offer is from SOA Inc. Bumper to Bumper. Not sure if that = Gold. Sounds like it

6years/60,000 = $550
6years/80,000 = $760
6years/100,000 = $1,160

Can pay with 10 interest free credit card pay too. Seems like a good deal if you will be keeping your car for at least 6 years. I won't so I will not be purchasing, but maybe this can help someone. Good Luck

Prices quoted are really meaningless unless you can provide the plan offered.

Thumbs up Cheapest price that I've found

I have a 2011 Impreza outback and have been searching for extended warranties. I ended up purchasing from Joe Gingras at Roto Subaru after reading some of the posts on this forum. The prices below, Subaru Gold plus, are the lowest I've seen anywhere and they're genuine Subaru warranties from SOA. The lowest price i was able to negotiate from my local dealer was 1495+tax. Joe beat that by over $350. These prices are current as of 1 April 2013:

7 yr/70K 100ded-605, 50ded-680, 0ded-770
7 yr/100K 100ded-940, 50ded-1040, 0ded-1140

The warranties are effective from the date the vehicle was placed into service. Joe was very helpful and professional. He can be reached at 847-255-5700 X291. Thanks to all the members who posted about this deal.

Actually Subaru SAS comes in two varieties - Classic and Gold. The gold provides much more coverage and cost a bit more. See the pdf here: http://www.subaru.com/content/downlo...s_brochure.pdf

Edit: See C141's Gold SAS prices and then compare it to what you paid for the Classic (also not the years/mileage differences).

Yes, I fully understand. The letter I received again was for the classic - and the prices quoted were for that plan. Again, I did not purchase this plan but hope this info helps someone. Good Luck!

I think I've been had! We purchased our car like I always do: It's 10 p.m. the dealership is about to close for the evening, I've driven two or three cars, and my wife is about to divorce me! Anyways, my PS rack just started leaking where the it connects to the steering input shaft.I contacted the local stealership to see what's covered. The Service Manager told me I needed a complete rack replacement and also told me it would be covered if I had purchased an extended warranty at time of purchase. I didn't recall if we had or not but, turns out that we had. I found the paper work burried in the moving boxes marked "car stuff" and came to find out that I shelled out $2,945 for a Gold Plus Plan!!!!!!!! Maybe next time I should go to buy a car when they open for business not when they are trying to go home for the night !

So your power steering rack was replaced under the Gold Plus Plan, right?

almost $3k for gold plus?

I could've gotten it for little less than $1500 since it's WRX..

when I got mine, it was $1140 for normal impreza and turbo was extra $200 or 300.. and no tax (7yr 100k 0 deductible)

according to PDF doc, power steering is cover under Subaru classic warranty.. and since you have gold plus.. it should cover it

No, I don't have it. I don't believe in buying extended warranties. IMHO, there are too many ways for them to say "Oh, that's not covered", and then there's often a deductible you must pay, so by the time you add up the initial purchase price of the warranty, plus the deductible, well let's just say that you could have just paid for one or two pretty hefty repairs before you even break even. But that's just my philosophy, which doesn't work for everyone. You must do what allows you to sleep at night.

But since you have it, you should be covered, right? What's the price of the repair? Would your car still be covered under the original manufacturer's warranty? If not, why not? Do you have too many miles on your car?

Yeah. I think if I'd been there alone, the situation may be different. Who knows? I do remeber them trying to twist our arms pretty heavily on getting it! As far as the PS Rack. The total out the door is $1156.95. I was just gonna buy a rack and do it myself until my wife found this paperwork. Then I started doing some research and came to find I paid a hefty penny for this thing. They're definitely doing the work now. It seems crooked that the cost of something offered by the same corporation could be so dramatically different from one entity to another. Maybe a quick call to SOA would clear things up for me? Probably not.

easier way to find out to see if you have extended warranty is

go to my suburu https://www.subaru.com/my-subaru/account.html

create acct, and put it your VIN, it will say added security: active

btw, when you took it to dealer did dealer says you have to buy gold plus?

that's interesting.. when you put VIN, Suburu system should've show dealer what kind of warranty the car has..

Yeah. I unfortunately or fortunately did throw down $3k for a frickin warranty. Now I have to return my car to as stock as possible so they don't claim my stage 2 mods or random other aftermarket parts blew an o-ring out of my rack! At least I didn't do the whiteline bushings, yet. This is a new dealership to me so, I'm not sure how cool they are with mods?

No. They didn't say we had to purchase the warranty. They just scared my spouse with talks of crazy expensive repairs to their fine automobile that they were trying to sell us.
I wanted a new toy instead of the Outback XT I had been driving and my wife wanted added security. I probably didn't even listen to the warranty talk at the time. I went to the dealership to buy a loaded STI but, I found out I was $4k upside down on my Outback! By the end of that very long day I was leaving with my consolation prize no matter what! Doh

that sounds familiar they always use the scare tactic to sell extended warranties, thats the business managers job and the more ppl that buy the warranties the more it lines their pockets the same way as the apr routine thats why I deal with the bank directly and have loan already setup before I walk into a dealership. Sorry you had to find out the hard way how they like to do this crap to ppl, it's absolutely disguisting the things some dealerships will add to a deal to line their pockets.

When I picked up my Impreza -mind you had to drive 120 miles from NY to NJ to get it... while reviewing the sales agreement with Finance mgr, there was a $200+ charge for window etching...I said what is this charge? He said that is for window etching, didn't your salesman go over that with you.... Uh, Really, never even mentioned it... they were just hoping I signed the papers and left. They had not done this window etching crap. You have to read everything very carefully. Hope this helps someone.. Oh and I did not pay for it... made him rip it up and start over.

It is crooked! It should be a set price all across the United States instead of having to call Joe for the cheapest price. This isn't third party, it's a Subaru service contract at a Subaru dealership. I don't know what makes Joe so special. Maybe Joe is the only honest guy doing Subaru service contracts

It's been talked about before: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141669
See Post #2. Some real shady stuff there. Quoted from $1,400 to $700??? Just scandalous.

So? We don't all pay the exact same price for our Subaru cars. Why should we all pay the same price for a service contract (at least those who decide to buy one)?

Guys, a dealership is a business. A business is in business to make money. It's up to the customer to know what he is willing to pay, to be educated, and to have some negotiation skills (which requires patience). Without this knowledge and skill, the customer can and usually will be taken advantage of. Let the buyer beware!

Even when you buy from a dealer with a "no dicker sticker price" policy like I did, there are still plenty of opportunities for the dealership to negotiate and increase their profits, such as the trade-in price of your car, the APR of your loan, an extended maintenance contract, rustproofing/fabric/paint protection package, and so on. You have to be strong and disciplined to keep the dealership from taking you for a ride!

If you're going to be at the dealership at closing time, flustered because your wife is giving you a hard time, and you have the mindset that "I'm not leaving here without having closed a deal", well, don't be surprised to find that you got screwed in as many different orifices as the salesperson could find. That's no way to negotiate a good deal.

Two different things. Why? Yeah, car prices are different with the models and options you choose. However, the service contract has two choices: Classic or Gold Plus and pick your years/miles/deductible. You can't add or remove items in the contract like you can items on a car, everybody's contract covers exactly the same thing and everybody's car is mechanically the same so there shouldn't be any fluctuating prices IMO. Just a flat rate service cost depending on what deductible you choose but sadly that's not the way it is so...

The SAS plans have a MSRP just like the car. They also have an invoice price and dealer hold backs associated with them. I believe; however, am not sure that they count towards dealer sales incentive/bonus that is normally based on new car sales.

Joe, just appears to be willing to take a smaller cut of the difference between invoice and MSRP - maybe just keeping the hold back. In any event, I would say it is more similar to buying a TV or other equipment where there may be huge price differences between vendors.

You and I will just have to disagree on this. Two different people buying the exact same model car with the same options will likely pay two different prices, unless they're buying from the same "no dicker sticker price" dealership. Most auto purchase transactions have negotiating wiggle room, and I don't see why the same couldn't be said for the extended warranty.
