Samco IC Hoses
as is seen with many others, I too had some excess molding flash left inside the pipe and my y-pipe was a little too long... But, the install still went smoothly and there is definitely a difference.
First thing I noticed was that the EGTs dropped a little bit on WOT runs. I attribute this to the turbo working less to make the same boost and therefore putting less heat into the intake. The car doesn't really feel any faster, and the noise isn't significantly increased, but I like it.

not a large amount... possibly 50 degrees? I was previously running HOT at around 1600 for extended high-load conditions like highway driving up a hill

Took me just a little longer than 20, but the install really isnt a problem.
The recirc hose from the BOV clamp is hard to get off b/c its pointed down, but not too difficult. I reused all stock clamps except for 1. The clamp for the hose to the BOV was a bit too small. Keep that in mind when you do the hoses as you may need a slightly larger clamp. thx to Adam from Z1 for my Yellow hoses...my wife's happy now Yellow is cute |

I Had a time wrestling off that pinch clamp off the recirc hose too and it took quite a while longer than twenty minutes. I ended up cutting the old stock recirc hose off so I could get my hands down there and so I could see what I was up against. upside down pinch clamp in a tight area.................
But nonetheless the new Blue hoses look spiffy and I notice a faster build up of boost which could be more power. ps buy two new clamps for the recirc hose unless you like those pot metal pinch clamps |

Mine did not take 20 minutes...
Cut and paste from my other post: So I tried this this weekend with all of the tips I scoured from all over this site and others. I thought I was prepared for the hell that is the BOV return hose... BOY, was I wrong. I got everything else taken off without a hitch and rolled my sleeves up to tackle the "devil clamp". I fished around just to get an idea of what I was in for. Everyone else said that the clamp was turned toward the bottom. They were right. I could just get my finger tip on it, but did not have enough leverage to get it off. Out came my trusty coat hanger and my 1/2" hook at the end to grab the clip and swivle it to where I could get to it. I hooked it and started to pull... SNAP!!! Worst sound EVAR. I snapped one end of the clip off and in the process buried the hook into to the return hose... I had to get the hose off now. No choice in the matter. After trying about eleventy billion ideas, one of which broke the other end of the clip off, I finally decided to cut the hose in half and try to wiggle it out from under what was left of the clip. All was going well (aside from my forearms blowing up from trying to hold onto the hose) when it decided to let loose... BAM... ouch... Bruised and battered I re-installed the new hoses and tighted everything down. Final ruling: The hoses kick azz. They make the car feel "lighter". The turbo spools up faster. Me likey. STAY AWAY FROM THE BOV HOSE... :monkey: |

i changed the y hose but left the other stock hoses on. they seem to be the exact same as the samco and i'd rather not have my engine bay draw attention if not needed. even my samco y-hose is black
anyone know if the other hoses make any difference? the y-hose looked maybe lightly bigger so i assumed that's the one that really matters, the fat short throttle body hose was too short to matter and the other one was just a bitch to take off so i left it on, looked the exact same on the outside though i couldnt see the inside i may still throw the rest on if i have some time, was just in a rush to get to school |

rec hose clamp...
one thing i did when installing my BOV to get that BOV rec vent hose off was to pinch it and push down to get it off the BOV, then after removing the BOV it was much easier to get that pinch clamp off.. and in case anyone wants to know that clamp is put on and removed with hog ring pliers.. they have an indention in them that the clamp sits right inside of and makes the job of removing them so easy... anyway just got my hoses today and should have them on tonight...will try and post back if a difference is noticed..

samco......
well the hoses are on... you can tell the boost builds sooner, i had to adjust my MBC because it was spiking to high and set of the check eng light due to fuel cut off... the one thing about the set i received was it seemed they were cut wrong... they did'nt want to fit the stock intercooler very well, they were kind of angled wrong.. one of the y-pipes fit great the other would not go on straight.. not that easy to explain, also the BOV return hose is not long enough, tried to go back and let some slack off where it goes into the intake piece but still would not go up all the way onto the BOV side...but non the less there on. the clamps seem to hold them on even after some hard driving...all in all there a good mod, but they do take longer than 20 minutes to install..

devil clamp? You guys dont have the right tools.
45 degree needlenose pliers was all that I needed. Didnt even have to draw blood! I like the hoses, but since I have them on, I notice a little flutter sound at 4-5500 RPM on WOT. Anyone else get this? |
