Lol, have ONE beer. How is riding a motorcycle tipsy? It sounds kind of dangerous.

By the way, do you have to have motorcycle insurance before you can go to the DMV and get your motorcycle license?

No, but it's highly recommended that you not ride your bike up there to get your license... They're ticket ya on the spot. Hah

They do? Weird...I was told to have insurance on the bike and have a licensed driver follow me to the testing center. No ticket given, just a simple test. I mean how else you gonna get it there...sheesh.

I have heard many stories of tickets. Best to trailer or truck it up there. Or get a licensed friend to ride it.

Well I will drink about 1 beer an hour and sit around, drink some water, eat something. I am very careful. I don't get tipsy when I ride. I do know some people that will drink like 3 or 4 beers and not eat. Only sit at the bar for like an hour and then ride home I kinda want to follow them just to see the carnage.

Haha, yeah, I've heard about this. I think you can get a permit or something and as long as their is a licensed friend with you, you're okay. I completed the MSF motorcycle safety course so I should only have to take the written portion of the exam though right?

I don't have an rc51, but I'm going to guess you'll have to lift/remove the tank and at least one side-fairing.

...google doesn't show you anything?

I just looked at my shop manual and mine is different than yours (02 vs. 01) for the front cylinder. On the 02+, you remove the 2 bolts holding the plate on to expose the front cylinder. On the 00-01, you remove the 2 bolts and have to move the oil cooler out of the way. It is located basically right under your front fairing.

BTW- I get spark plugs for my 02' from Advanced Auto. $9.88 each and have a 2 year warranty.

The reason he told you there are 2 plugs per cylinder is probably because some Honda Vtwins do have 2 per. Some Shadows have 4 plugs, IIRC.

Oh man that will be fun I havent had to do mine yet but if you need help and are in the area I will try to offer assistance when I can. On the bikes I have done they are not too big of a deal just time consuming.

Yeah, I have to take off or lift up the tank and then take off the chin spoiler. I was hoping someone could supervise me or maybe walk me through it since I've never done this before. I went outside and lifted up the tank, but I couldn't tell what I was supposed to do after that. Maybe I'll try to pick up a service manual and try again.

The easiest way without disconnecting the gas tank totally is to have something secure that you can strap to the ceiling and hook that on the tank to hold it up out of the way while you do the work. BUT MAKE SURE IT IS SECURE!!!!

why not just use a prop-rod or stick?... or a piece of 2x4 as a 'wedge'?

if he's really worried about spilling gas, just siphon it all out.. can't be more than.. what.. 4 gallons or so if it's completely full?... go ride around for a while and burn off 'extra' gas first?... can't take very long to empty a tank on an RC51 I'd guess!

Well if you use a stick or wedge then it is in the way. If you strap it then you will have a lot more room. Or you can just take the tank off, it should not leak unless you have a old bike. It should have an electric gas pump in the tank that will keep it from leaking even with all the hoses undone.

As for the bikes I suggest riding them all. The RSVR and RC51 will smoke the other 2 bikes. Plus with the Ape you will get Brembos and Ohlins in cluded in the price so if it is a bit higher that is why Totally worth it!

Yeah, I know,.. the 'sportier' bikes will smoke the less-so... not really my main focus. I have sporty-enough bikes if I want that. I just am in the mood for a nice torquey twin, at least this month... my 'wants' change all the time. I really just need to win the damned lottery b/c I have a list of about 30 bikes I want (old and new).
