Thinking about doing this but since I have a FMIC plugging it into the Turbo Output to test the intercooler piping.
Hoping I dont have to pull off the bumper to fix a leak. |

What did you guys use to plug the three nipples on the turbo inlet?

I was able to run the test but the air was coming straight out of the exhaust. This is with the fitting in the turbo inlet, capped off the fittings, capped off the intercooler piping at the throttle body coupler.
I could sit there and constantly run air through and it would not compress. I sat down by the exhaust and absolutely heard air coming out. What does it all mean? |

I think it's possible that all engines stop in the same positions, most of the time. It can be that in the WRX a position is with one of the cylinders having intake and exhaust valves open.

I don't think that's possible since I capped off before the throttle body.

Look, if there was no physical connection between the air supply and the engine (you disconnected and caped everything), then I don't know see how the air got into the exhaust. It would have to travel from the compressor housing into the turbine housing.

It seems that way doesn't it? That's why I'm posting about it. I'm ******* LOST!
It's like this...air into the turbo inlet, capped all 4 connections on that, including the bpv hose. Capped the throttle coupler at the throttle body. At that point I was thinking I would strictly be testing the intake system since everything else was bypassed but somehow the air won't compress and comes right out the exhaust. I had sure I could hear the air coming, going, coming, going, etc as he fed it. |

Was everything cold? Try to separate the turbo, that would confirm the finding. Did you also cap the compressor boost pickup nipple?

Yeah everything was completely cold. Car hasn't ran since Tuesday.
I got mad and ripped it apart. The turbo is out and sitting on the work bench. Tomorrow I'm going to swap my TD04 back in and see if that does anything. Far from the easiest way to diagnose but I was mad and something is telling me it's the turbo. |

It's weird. If the prosibility exists for a leak between compressor and turbine, probably the exhaust would come into the compressor, there's more pressure there.
Otherwise, the leak would have to be in the wastegate area. I havent' heard of this from other forums, maybe it's a TD04 problem? |

I'm running a VF23. What would be the best way to test the wastegate while the turbo is out of the car?

This may sound stupid, but hook up the air supply to intake side of the compressor and maybe try to close the outlet with your palm. I think that this way you won't do dammage because you'll just use your judgement.
Obviously, a leak will be heard on the exhaust (turbine) side. I got the idea from the days when I was cleaning carburetors by reving and chocking the carburetor intake with my palm. |

Yo Erick,
Did you ever do this? Do you have a pressure tester. This not hitting full boost is really getting to me. I replaced all the vac lines in the car so the leak, if there is one, must be coming from somewhere else. Wanna help me figure it out? |

mske sure your boost gauge goes right to your Manifold with no T off's in the vac hoses if there is it wont be a correct boost reading.

is it necessary to plug the ventilation ports on the inlet to perform this test?
