Question Bouncing RPM at Idle...?

I have a new 2.5i (2000km's). I noticed that sometimes when I am rolling to a stop at a light with the clutch in the RPM's bounce between 500 and 2000 four maybe 5 times before it settles into its regular idle. At first I thought it was because the air con was forcing it to rev up a little but when it did it with the AC off...well there goes that theory. Anyone have any ideas. I am going to call my dealer to see if this is normal but I thought I would put it to you first....

thanks O- wise subaru oracle!!!

Take it back to the dealer. There is a bulletin out about the ignition timing not being learned completely. The bulletin says there will be a hesitation when pulling out from a stop, and it could have something to do with the idle as well. But this is a problem I would have the dealer take a look at.

You know, now that you mention it, unless I rev it up, it does lug horribly when I want to take off from a stop sign. Thanks for the feedback, I will take it in.

I'll throw out more possibilities and say it could possibly be the Fly By Wire System. My friend had an 05 STi and one time he was in the drive thru to get food and all of the sudden his car turned off and then he turned it back on and the throttle didn't work but this idle would just be bouncing from 250-2000rpms repeatedly until the car stalled itself.... it was a problem with the flyby wire being a lil burned by the motor, if i remember correct its the electronic throttle control system as opposed to havin the old school cable throttle control. Please correct me if im wrong i'm a bit rusty, but thats my suggestion.

I have a 2006 2.5i and I posted about this already.
My car does the same thing when my foot is on the clutch sometimes, but the RPMS will drop when I put the car into 1st gear). Sometimes when I back out my driveway in the morning, I go up to 2k rpms in reverse, then when I shift into 1st gear, the RPMS stay at about 2k even though I have not hit the gas and let go of the clutch. They say that way until I put the car into neutral.

I have similar issues with my 1990 Legacy wagon, so I doubt it's ONLY a FBW thing. Last night was it was quite bad while cruising around town. Taking off became more of a problem with 11 people in the car (5 in the boot, 4 in the back seat and 2 up front - that's about a normal "piss cruise" - going off topic here, sorry) because of the fluctuating revs under 1.5K and the extra load. I managed to stall the car 3 times that night and got called a n00b driver in the process.

If it's a FBW problem in your case, then meh. I'll still be standing there scratching my head.

TECHNICALLY, only airplanes are FBW, lol. I assume the legacy is a MAF setup. If it is, check for vacuum leaks.

My 2.5i was doing a lot of that when it was brand new, and everyone said it was teh DBW, even the dealers. After about a month or so, it pretty much stopped doing it, except during cold starts in the morning.
