^^^^how many times have I asked if you were gonna sell that spare engine
funny to see that my guesses based on the short block geometry was right. I think the cranks are failing not only because of the crank offset but also because the bore spacing tightened up a lot and added more stroke which puts more force on less material for the throws. Look at the overlap between the journals. |

Now here's a good one.... Either custom headgaskets or plain the heads to increase compression with the EZ's... Problem obviously being the timing cover still has to fit. Any thoughts on it?

The question wasn't on decking the head but the fact that the EZ's timing cover is solid and a seal for the oil as well. I want to deck the head to 9.0:1 with Supertech 8.5:1 pistons for that 0.5:1 more compression with boost.
I have zero issue about how or why's TO do it. It's how do I get past the timing cover issue? |

You're saying that if you deck the head 20 thou or so that the timing cover will no longer fit properly? Idk, but are the timing cover pieces so precisely machined that a 40 thou difference or even 80 thou difference will make it not fit?

Is looking to be the case. I don't want to deck the head only to find I can't fit the heads back on with the timing cover. 8.5:1 is fine with boost and the BW S366, but having 9:1 could def pull a LOT more out of it.

Or for <$480 I can just deal with 8.5:1 Supertech's and still be happy. I'm still trying to stick to SOME kind of budget... :hide:

What was the last we left off talking engine management again? Did we talk Vipec? I know Hydra, Link, and AEM we brought up...

not sure but my plans include a ViPec V88... eventually.
did AEM offer something that works with the EZ's? And does anybody know how well the ViPec is at controlling the factory gauges? |

I was looking at the V88 also, one of our tuners at the shop said he's seen a few work well with Subarus. AEM does not offer one specific to them but it's just the extra cylinders and mapping. I was gonna email them tonight and start asking. Especially if they are willing to help with an EZ specific one. I still want to do a tandem ECU set on mine.

I would assume that since AEM has something to work a VQ35 that something for an EZ3X shouldn't be too far fetched.

Oh it definately can... It's just adding up all the options... I really want to just go AEM. I just want to do as little wiring as possible.

If you're going with AEM, you may as well just ditch that and throw some carbies on it.
For heavens sake, a vipec v88 runs it out of the box. |

Is Autronic able to run the EZ30R? I assume if one is considering the Autronic the Vipec can do it equally as well?

That's also kind of an odd way if phrasing things in my perspective also. Hydra calls it parallel, where the OEM will take care of gauges and still show as good on inspection but does nothing to control the engine.

Not OEM EZ ECU. Four banger ECU. There would be no advantage of the EZ ECU since that's what cause all the problems. The idea is let the car just act like a normal Subaru with the actual motor controls being taken care of by the stand alone. Allows for ODB2 plug ins for inspection and you still have a legal factory ECU in thee that's able to give whatever emissions your state requires. All factory ECU will read all the incoming signals from the motor and give all the green lights without actually have a say of telling the motor what to do.
