That's right. But you won't need new clamps to go over the new bushings. Your existing clamps will fit correctly.

I bundled it with the 5 door side cargo nets, the center console tray and rear spoiler, the shipping for the whole lot was $29.75. I think (but not sure) that shipping started at about $18.

It's getting installed on Saturday.

For anyone else who is thinking of adding this bar to their base Impreza: DO IT!

The install was quite straightforward. The improvement is very significant.Going from no rear sway to a 19mm, the body roll in corners is greatly reduced. I am more confident in corners and it is generally more pleasant to drive the car in the city and just more driveable in generally. It also feels less susceptible to cross winds on the highway. My significant other was so impressed that I am going to put a rear sway on her Honda which is also a base model and doesn't come with one!

I'll second the ease of install. 1 hour 10 minutes, including the time to walk back across the street from my friend's place to my apartment to get the tube of grease I'd forgotten. That's time to drive over, jack up the car, remove the original bar, install the new one, lower the car and install the cargo nets. If you know how to put a wrench on a nut/bolt you can do this job.

^^ I don't remember requiring grease when I installed my rear sway bar. Did I miss something? I know some bushings get greased, but I think the OEM bushings on my 16mm bar were dry, so I left the 19mm bushings dry too.

OK, as a sanity check, I just reviewed the Rear Stabilizer Bar removal/replacement procedure in the service manual. There's no mention of using grease, so I installed my 19mm bar/bushings correctly.

I know some aftermarket bars/bushings require grease, and even provide grease fittings for this purpose. But it appears that the Subaru bars/bushings do not require grease.

Whoops. Hopefully it won't make any difference. If for some reason it does, it won't take more than 10 or 15 minutes to pull the bushings off and clean them off.

My concern would be the long-term compatibility of the grease you used with the bushings. Some grease/rubber combinations can degrade the rubber over time.

That's pretty much what I just was thinking too. I'll pull the caps off when I get a chance and get them clean when I get a chance. Better safe than sorry.

I can't tell you the exact tools you'll need. I don't recall what size metric socket driver you will need to remove/install the various nuts when removing/installing the RSB.

You don't need to jack up the car; in fact, proper procedure is to install the RSB with the car's weight loaded on the tires. I drove my rear tires up on a couple of stacked 2x6 boards to give me a few extra inches of clearance in the back of the car.

Good luck!

do you think you can give me a few steps so i at least have some sort of guideline?

or is it basically remove 2 bolts on each side, put new sway bar in, reattach 2 bolts on each side.

Is there a market for the 15mm bars? I'm about to just chuck mine.

Yes. People with the base-model Impreza, which has no rear bar at all, would find the original 16mm bar to be a huge improvement.

Nah, theres no market for it. The base model-ers need to buy endlinks and brackets too so its pretty much easier to just buy the 19mm bundle.

I still have mine, not sure what ill do with it. Sell it to junkyard maybe, its pretty heavy lol

I sold mine. Didn't get much for it, but sold it just the same. At least it's not going to waste.

Sport and Limited models come with a 16mm bar. The STI comes with a 19mm bar. Those of us with 16mm bars available have upgraded to 19mm bars. Those of you with Base models have no rear bar, and would benefit greatly from either a 16mm or 19mm bar. I don't recommend going thicker than 19mm, as doing so might make the car tend to oversteer more easily, but I know one member of this forum has experimented with that setup (or is at least thinking about it).

That's usually a good thing. Personally I don't like meeting walls with my face.

Are you suggesting that oversteer is a good thing?

I disagree, unless you're trying to drift, which most of us don't do outside of a large, empty, snowy parking lot.

I don't want understeer, but I also don't want oversteer. I prefer neutral handling, and the 19mm bar provides that nicely.

For me, the Impreza is a daily driver. It's not a rally car (in spite of Subaru's roots), and I never plan to drive it as such.

Oversteer is definitely more dangerous then understeer. Neutral handling is optimal for performance driving.
