Default saying good bye to the legacy..maybe not =P

Well after months of help from all of you kind people and information, I have decided to sell the car. The good news is I am going with a WRX and am currently looking. Anyone know who wants MY00 with 34000k on it and is a manual? I will be posting in the classifieds later next week.
thanks!

Maybe not...

Ya I am sad to see it go. It is the Champaign color, and is the GT. Thinking about getting 15k for it, it has the ALK and rear swaybar on it now, everything else is stock. Car is in excellent shape.

What made you decide to go with a WRX? The car itself, or the power? Or you just don't wanna wait for the new Legacy turbo..

Man, sorry to see you go too. Yeah, we legovers are dropping like flies, Although many of us will return in a couple years I'm sure.

$15k sounds OK if it is really clean, kind of depends on the market where you are though.

Well I would LOVE to keep the car. I am just having thoughts about the car. I mean after the warranty is up I wanted to do the internals, with a turbo, ecu etc... I just keep thinking and reading, and it looks like I would better off to buy a car with a turbo and items now. Reliability you see. I have to drive to Sac, 1hr and half to have anyone work on my car if I did go that route. So if I can sell it kewl. If not then I will keep it and enjoy every min that I have in it.

BOO!!

keep it and turbo that sucker, unless you want me to be the only one once i finish, between joe and i you will be able to do all the work yourself with no problem, i am willing to lend you all the info i have gathered and will gather from the install.

but hey, its your decision, i just think the legacy is WAY better, but i see where you are coming from

You could always get a WRX swap. That'd be reliable and legal for much less than a new car. Just a thought.

there you go, we solved your problem EJ20 engine swap, you get the reliabilty of the wrx and the looks of the legacy and adding power is simple with all the aftermarket parts available for the EJ20 engine.

Orrrrr......if the STi's are like the WRX's, migth be able to swap the 2.5T in there with a 6spd...

But that would mean waiting in line for a totaled STi......

I think with Joe and Ben, and the other 2.5RS-T owners, a reliable turbo system could be done. But there is something to be said for out of the box factory reliability with an EJ20T swap.

well i mean dont let us decide for you, cause obviously we are bias but for good reason. if you are gonna spend money on mods anyways why not be different, i mean i am assuming the legacy caught your eye for a reason instead of the rex.

just be forewarned, if you go aftermarket kit, to get reliabilty you have to do it right, which is more expensive, and you will spend at least 2000 on engine management, from there you can do whatever, but its a base of 2000. you could go the route JoeT did with piecing together wrx parts, he did that and his car looks ridiculously fast, he is also a good driver though

I think your right. It seems that it all comes down to how good your ECU is. I figure spending close to 2k and then having someone tune it when I get all the parts. Like you, I have done a ton of reading and asking. The car is kick ass. I think maybe I am being to American and wanting everything now, and can not wait until next summer when I have more cash on the ECU and turbo. So by getting the rex I get some of that gratification now and a ton of parts to choose from. I have talked to tom over at ludespeed and with the Stage III with some better internals and some tranny work I feel I can have a reliable turbo on MY00. I will admit that there is something funny to be said about getting the Legacy to over 300whp which is what I would love to do.

yea, it really is all about the tuning, and the Autronic is one of the best available. and if you have the money to do the internals, then you really have nothing to worry about, i understand the part about instant gratification, but along with the power, i am looking at this as a HUGE learning experience that i am really excited about, i mean once i am done and everything is working(knock on wood) i can step back and say wow i did that myself and learned a ton doing it.

but that is just me, i mean if you really wanted to, if you are gonna drop like 10k into mods, you could look into just getting the turbo legacy next summer cause that would have factory reliabilty and big power.

I would do that but the thing is that I am still paying for the car I have. I like just got it like a few months ago. I have gotten all my cars from the same leasing agency due to family friends. I can get out of the car no problem with out getting burnt. I just don't know if I can deal with a car with only a year+ paid on it and then get into a car payment for a car that is like double. I am sure the new Legacys are going to be like 35k+
That is why I was going to get this car going. I only paid like 15k for my legacy with only 34k miles on it. So dropping another 10k next summer I will still be in it less and have a bigger turbo. The only thing I see wrong with that is no warranty, and the HP will be just a little less I would think.

i dont think the new turbo legacy will be over 35k but prob right at it. But yea, if you only paid 15k and put another 10k in it, you still would be way off of a turbo legacy. Just remember cars are NOT investments, so its def not gonna help resale, so if you start with this one, you are prob gonna wanna stick with it just from a financial standpoint if nothing else. i mean i love my car and plan on having it until it dies, so i am not worried about resale at all.

geez if you got it for 15k put in another 15k(if possible, and willing) you could get a car that is just as powerful if not more, and nearly just as reliable. i mean 10k would actually cover everything you would need if it was all for the engine, but thats also if you do a lot of the work yourself. another 5k to round out the car, you know, the coilovers, nice stereo, etc...
