Default "Premier Essential" 100k / Unlimited Time Mile Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty?

Just picked up my 2012 WRX. While I was there I added a 100k mile / unlimited time bumper-to-bumper warranty, 100% parts & labor for $1440. I did this knowing that it might be complete BS but that I could cancel it ASAP or get prorated in light of a trade-in or later cancellation. (Dealership already includes unlimited time & unlimited mileage power-train warranty for free).

I drive about 10k miles a year though, so it made sense that I could basically keep the rest of the car in perfect working condition for 10 years, for just $1440. Or if I trade it in I'll be prorated the exact proportion. Or I can cancel it all together tomorrow or 6 years from now.

Has anyone heard of "Premier Dealer Services" though, or pushed a claim on such a warranty?

Basically wondering if I should get this canceled tomorrow or actually keep it...

Im guessing thats the new fancy word for "Extended Warranty". I did that with my 04 and realized, that after all these years, I couldve saved my 2k i paid. With my next car, I will not get it. Theres always that fine print. Like if your engine blows, im sure thats not covered. That would have to come out of pocket. Or if you get in an accident, which i hope isnt your case, that wont be covered. Im sure just like almost everyone will say, "Cancel it. You dont need it"

After 8 years of having my car, i never needed the services for which I paid.

Agree that it depends on the specifics of what is covered. Still, just because you never needed doesn't mean squat. You're paying for peace of mind, so that if something does go kaput, you're covered. Worth it to some, less so to others, but let's not pretend that nothing will ever break in 8 years.

Read the contract. Does it say anywhere something like 'will not pay for repairs like lack of engine compression due to normal wear and tear'? I've heard of those agreements that are basically backed by the dealer. I only buy the ones backed by the OEM.

I will have to read all of the fine literature that I came home with last night.

Every Subaru that this dealership sells already comes with a lifetime unlimited miles & unlimited time power-train warranty, (they are the only one in NE that does this), so you can literally blow engines to your heart's content for the duration of your ownership. They basically gamble that you'll just sell the car before you need any real engine repairs.

So this "premier essential" warranty covers the rest of the car bumper-to-bumper, like AC compressor, electronics, shocks, struts, bushings, etc for 100k miles / unlimited time.

If I already have an unlimited powertrain warranty though, this other warranty might not really be worth $1440.

I'll have to read it all through and see what's what. Sorry for posting without having done that, just wanted to see if anyone had heard of this company and could be like "dump it!" or "keep it!" I googled it quickly but came up empty handed

Get your money back. They just stuffed something you didn't ask for down your throat. It sounds like some aftermarket warranty - which means the company that backs it may not be around when and if you ever need it.

I don't know if you're quite understanding the situation because you've just quoted the free warranty that the dealership provides on all of their cars, not the warranty I purchased.

I see your point though as applied to the warranty I purchased.

OP, this is your purchase and only you can 'guesstimate' your future needs.

Yes, make sure you understand your third-party warranty.

My experience is that [if] the third-party warranty company [is still around, they] will cover the repairs as described, however you will more-than-likely have to pay out of pocket first and then be reimbursed, less your deductible, for those costs.

You should also be aware that you may not be able to perform the service-repairs yourself or you may not be able to have an independent facility perform the service-repairs for you. You may have to take the vehicle to a Subaru dealership or a dealership qualified to repair Subaru cars.

Respectfully, it's up to you to understand what your rights and obligations are under this or any other warranty plan or program.

P.S.: you can also put the $1,500 or so into a savings account, for example, and add to it a little each year, and effectively 'self-insure' yourself.

*******

I just did an Internet single-search (I searched only once) and the first listing was for Premier Dealer Services: http://www.pdsadm.com/ This company is [currently] insured by the Great American Insurance Group: http://www.greatamericaninsurancegro...s/default.aspx

I did not peruse their site nor did I do any research to see how their coverage works and therefore I am not going to confirm, correct, counter, or change my statement(s) above.

could have had a Subaru Added Security Plan that will use factory new or reman parts for that price. Gold Plus 6y/100k $0 deductable.
http://www.subaru.com/owners/resourc...ity/index.html

Now you have a junk aftermarket warranty that will repair the car with junkyard parts, used parts, aftermarket parts etc.

Whoa, thank you OP... this thread got me thinking about my own 2012 WRX... I asked for the official Subaru extended warranty and it looks like my dealer set me up with some other dealer specific craptastic warranty probably with aftermarket parts. Looks like the Subaru extended plan can be set up at any time during the basic warranty... so now I'm going to go about the process of getting my plan cancelled and get that money back!

the old saying if it sounds too good to be true!the dealers on the west coast will usually go out on a limb to help in most cases.the so called bumper to bumper lifetime thing sounds too good.if a salesman told me of this great deal i would get some concrete proof to prove it to be real.every one knows how honest the sales people are.good luck on the purchase hope you never need warranty services.

A lot of that lifetime stuff is what the dealership themselves offer but usually comes with a caveat. Check your sales paperwork as there will be a disclosure on it with the terms and guidelines on what you may have to do to.

Our dealership offers something similar. Our new cars and some used cars come with engines for life and we will cover the engine for as long as you own it if an internal lubricated part fails. The OWNER must have all factory maintenance performed at our dealership in order to stay in that program. Which is nice because oil changes are free and our basic factory maintenance services are $75 to $210 which includes major services.

The only extended warranty worth buying is Subaru Added Security Gold Plan, at least you know for sure it's under subaru.

PM'd you with some info. I personally would stear clear of a Non-Subaru Extended Warranty. Try Mr G's contact first as he appears have the best price. The Subaru Extended Warranty is good at any Subaru Dealer in the US.

how much is the subaru warranty on a WRX, anyone have a quote for theirs, or bought it and know the prices?

I like how the most common expensive repairs on cars Ive run into arent covered under gold.. tires, rotors and clutch. Rotors arent too bad, but clutch is.

Even the maintenance plan wont cover clutch, and tires...

I just feel like they will always try and "get you" with these... "oh you were 500 miles late on an oil change.. no coverage for you".

That is because you are lucky and the only failures you have mentioned are the normal ones like wear items. Nobody will provide extended coverage on something that is made and designed to wear. Work in this business and you will have a different outlook. I have seen plenty of people benefit from having an extended warranty. On numerous occasions, I have seen water pumps, transmissions, turbo's, engines sunroofs and convertible tops(over $3200) covered by their extended warranty.

Amazingly, this "Premier Dealer Services" is actually a BBB accredited business, and they've been in business for 14 years. It seems that most of the complaints are about the company being slow to respond to refunds when the warranty runs up, but no claim has been made. My warranty does not work like that; any refund would be prorated, even if no claim is made. This almost makes me feel better because then it's not all that "too good to be true". Regardless, who knows if I'll even be keeping the car beyond 3 years anyway...
