CEL: P0133 O2 Sensor Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0133 o2 Sensor Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
2000 Subaru Legacy GT Limited 83333 Miles Came on while I was doing 80 on the highway. Added gas this morning (about 50 miles prior), the gauge was a little above half when the light came on. Code was pulled at Advance Auto Parts. Went home disconnected battery, reconnected, light still on. Drove for 5 minutes, shut car off for 5 minutes, drove back home, light still on. Pricing for O2 Sensors at the Auto Parts Store was $150-200!!! Help?

Try blowing out the sensor with low pressure and cleaning it with some carb cleaner. This helped me for almost a year before I had to replace mine.

Which side is Bank 1? Is it the side with Cylinders 1 and 3?

Hmm I only found 1 o2 Sensor? Right behind the cat (I think it could even be in the Cat)
EDIT: I went to the store to buy Carb Spray and a Socket, and the light shut itself off..WTF Random Last edited by BLK REX; 12-16-2006 at 04:16 PM. |

There's only one 'Bank', but there are 2 sensors. Your code O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 1) is the FRONT sensor, which is the one the ECU uses for closed loop AFR control.
It sounds like you may have found the rear O2 sensor (way back in the exhaust - and only used for emissions monitoring). The one you want is ahead of any cats, right where the LH and RH exhaust manifolds merge. |

I'm in the same boat... my CEL came on, then went off randomly. Now it's back on and staying on. Same code as yours plus p0420. I can't get my front O2 sensor to budge though... tried everything I can think of short of taking the cat off of the car.

That is your front 02 sensor, BEFORE The cat
the one after the cat is bank1 sensor 2 you need to replace the front oxygen sensor. You cant just put a similuator in there that sensor is what the ecu uses to calculate air/fuel ratio when they get old they ''slow'' down. that legacy only has one ''bank'' because they only use one upstream sensor. |

Did you replace it with an OEM sensor or something else?

It decided to just shut itself off..
...is there any connection between this CEL and the gas cap? My (female) friend forgot to put the cap on after refueling and drove it for a minute or so until i realized it.. |

No, that would be an evaporative emissions CEL.
