Default MA driver's license renewal question

I turn 21 the end of the month (on the 29th) which means my driver's license will expire.

Do I get a notice in the mail or am I just supposed to go on my birfday? Cause..my birthday is on a Sunday..

You don't have to wait for it to expire to get a new one.

You should've received one already, or in the next couple days. If you renew early, your new license will still say "Under 21". Just take your passport with you when you go celebrate

incorrect, it will expire on the 21st Bday as that requires the new type of license. No reminders are sent anymore, "to save $."

I think expires around 5 years after you get it so if you were late getting your license it would expire after your birthday.

No. THAT is weird. Everyone I know has had their license expire on their 21st birthday. My exgirlfriend got her license 7 months before her 21st and had to renew on her birthday.

EDIT: Weird..my girlfriend got screwed?

Here's the wording:
http://www.mass.gov/rmv/dmanual/chapter1.pdf
Quote:
Your Massachusetts driver’s license is valid for five years unless it is your first license,
which expires on your fifth birthday after the date of issue. You may renew your license up
to one year before the expiration date. If your license expired more than four years ago,
you may be required to take a written and road test.

you need to go to the dmv and get a new one if you go before your 21st bday you will still get a vertical licence. so you have to wait for it it to expire also you can't do it online you need to go to a dmv center.

since the RMV stopped mailing reminders- plymouth rock insurance started a free reminder service. i'm not sure the link to it, but it reminds you for registration/license renewal. my buddy who works there was talking about this the other day.

I don't think this applies to the under-21 licenses.

Is it that hard to take care of these things without getting a postcard? It's perfectly reasonable for the state to cut corners like this to save money, though it would be great if they could put together an email reminder system as it would be much cheaper.

They have, you can now receive emails and txt reminders. Just wait till Monday after your birthday and get your license renewed. Simple. Are you going to get pulled over on the way to the RMV?

shouldn't you get a grace day when your expiration date falls on a non-business day (aka sunday for the RMV) or a holiday? it should be like tax day no? whenever that's on a sunday you always get the extra day
