Here is my setup
Vi-pec PnP standalone
EJ207 version 7 stock block with 90k km on it.
EJ207 intake and stock tgv deletes
AP racing fuel rails + stock fpr
One step colder copper plugs
TD06-20g 8cm hotside (pumping 21psi)
3" turboback with SARD racecat (metal)
grimmspeed up pipe EWG
TIAL 38mm external dump
Stock Exhaust manifold not ported + grimmspeed crosspipe
DW 1000cc injectors
Wahlbro 255lph
Amsoil Signature series 0-30w
Garrett 550hp Front mount (custom)
Aquamist hfs-2 (not so much power adder more for hot day safety in 3 seconds it reduced IAT by 20deg c!)

Mustang Dyno without the weather station (no temp correction and it was 90deg in the shop today...)

stock sti (2.5L) reads about 200-215whp the owner of the dyno told me.

We worked the avcs a lot to try and get the best tq curve possible(without crazy timming)!

not bad for a tiny 2L and a crappy somthing else than garrett turbo

Peak power is nice, but it looks like it falls off fast - any 1/4 mile times?

Yea, definitely looks normal for stock heads and manifold. I'm liking the curve a lot actually! Should be a blast to drive!!

Peoples thoughts of putting a full-race gt30r twin scroll kit on a stock v7 ej207, tune on e85? What injectors and fuel pump should I run? Any preferences on how to tune it? Or any other parts you guys would like to see me put on this set up. Thanks guys

You will need the utec so you can get speed density for that setup. Some of us where running GT30Rs 6 years ago on those motors. So search around.

Thanks Clark, I searched quite a bit so far. I sent you an email also. Do you think there's a better option for spool and horsepower wise then this set up? I'm looking for like 400whp on e85. Thanks for the help, I been reading as much as possible.

The ringland is part of the piston. Its the groove machined into the cast or forged metal to hold the ring in place.

My v8 was banged up a bit in transit and the timing belt was nicked. I replaced with a stock belt and haven't had any problems in the 15,000 miles since.

Stock sti belt huh. Did you have to special order that for a v8 engine?

Use a factory STI timing belt. Also make sure to adjust the timing belt guides and make sure they are in place. Its not a bad idea to buy the cosworth belt guide. Its $50 and makes sure the belt cant jump.

You need a new short block or 4 new pistons, rings, and then have the short block rebuilt and honed.

A bit side tracked, but how similar are the parts (gaskets, belts etc) on the JDM compared to the USDM engines? I'm debating between a v7 and a USDM 2.5 for a track car project.. I just don't know if I want to get into a JDM engine/ECU and worry about parts down the road.

Lastly, what do you all you V7 owners do for your exhaust, would it be the same exhaust as the regular USDM wrx?

Ryan

most of the gaskets are the same as on the USDM engines. All the belts are identical to usdm. Exhaust is the same as any USDM wrx/sti as long as you aren't running a RHD swap, the JDM downpipe is shorter IIRC.

Doug,

Why do you think that happens - power drop-off above 7200 rpm? What is the bottle neck?

P/s: Mine does it too.

Cheers.

Gerald.

Two major things really... cams and the intake manifold. Upgrade those PROPERLY and you see a significant improvement. A few other tweaks here and there help too.

Doug,

In which order would you prioritize that for a stock v8 EJ207 block? Also, is the stock exhaust manifold restrictive?

Doug,

My V7 Spec C engine (out of limited with same engine code) is still out and can be upgraded. V8 Spec C cams? What about the intake manifold? Lay it on me with some suggestions! Going to use the stock turbo VF30 for now. Car will be a track/autox and not a dyno queen so looking for relevant upgrades. Thanks!

I want to get the swap running smoothly before I do a significant power upgrade, but I have the engine out. Stuck between which I want to do. Decisions, Decisions...

Correct me me if I am wrong but if you have a v7 Spec-C/Limited motor, I believe it already comes with the same cams as the v8 (Spec-C or not) cams. Also, didn't the Spec-C/Limited v7 STI come with a VF34 turbo?
