Lasik with Lightwerkz
Had Caesar at Lightwerkz retrofit my headlights this week.
Click on the link for the write up on the build: http://www.lightwerkz.net/news/2013/...em-conversion/ After a lot of research on this forum, I figured out what I wanted to do. I wanted OEM quality/performance. I also wanted Black housing headlights like the 08-11 wrx/impreza's as mine was a 2013 with chrome. I figured out that the wrx & sti actually use the same housing as each other so the projectors are swappable w/o any modification. Also, an added bonus is that the housing also has a spot to mount the oem ballasts, just like the STI and wrx limited models. With that info...this is the scope of work done by Caesar. -Retrofit STI oem projectors with TSXR clear lens swap into WRX Housings -Use Oem Phillips bulbs with Oem Matsu****a Gen 5 Ballasts -Paint housings (except for the outermost projector bezel) with a black chrome effect paint -Black out the stock reflector in housing. While the front bumper was off, I decided to upgrade to the PIAA horns because as you guys all know, the stock horns are weak/dinky. I also installed a front lip I bought off my buddy that was parting out his wrx, which happens to be Jive Turkey's old front lip. Before: Front bumper off/PIAA horns installed: Painted housing: Completed (Caesar did a photoshoot) And I also did ONE LAST THING this weekend.... I added a 2012 Impreza Premium model Headunit with the 4.3" LCD screen...so much better than the stock radio in our wrx/sti's. Horns: http://www.amazon.com/85114-400Hz-500Hz-112db-Sports/dp/B004FXMGLY/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1359987562&sr=8-4&keywords=PIAA+horn more info on headunit: LINK BIG THANKS to Caesar at Lightwerkz!! his site: LINK http://www.lightwerkz.net/news/2013/...em-conversion/

Nice conversion. I like that HU as well but can't find them anywhere. How much did you pay for it?

Looks sharp. I think I like the black headlights better on the white cars, but I'm keeping my chrome headlights on my WRB car.
Good song too. How does a $340 newer stock head unit compare to spending $340 for something aftermarket? |

bluetooth works better as well, and there's more information on the screen. You know how on the oem bluetooth you press the talk button and you have to wait a couple seconds for the call to pick up (radio will go back on, then turn off in like 3 seconds). This picks up right away like it should. HD radio is built in, always like that Thanks! |

Headlights look great!
Quick head unit question. When streaming music over BT, can you access your folders / playlsts? My base unit can only do that over USB |

$340 is pretty steep for a OEM HU without navigation. But it is plug and play. I pay $100-$150 for these at most. With $300+ I can get a nice 6"-7" double din with BT and then add the Axxess for SWC.

I would go that route if I could keep my BT steering wheel controls. Is that possible?

My 2012 STi Sport-Tech (Canadian model) comes with a Pioneer X9310BT, which is the same as a X930BT. It uses a version of the PAC-SWI (I think! not 100% sure - it could also be a version of the Axcess SWC) that is hard-coded for Subaru steering wheel codes instead of a module that you can adjust yourself for various different cars. This plugs into the Pioneer unit and everything works fine. If I take the steering wheel interface module and adapter harness out of my car, I am back to a regular Subaru interface that would take a Subaru head unit. My car does not have a stock Subaru bluetooth microphone or Sirius antenna though, they installed the Pioneer ones. |

If a steering wheel control module can read them in, then it can easily be converted to any output code (if you wanted, you could have a programmable steering wheel adapter have the 'answer call' button turn the volume up, lol). It all comes down to whether the head unit you get supports those functions as an input from the steering wheel control module.

You can retain all SWC functions with the Axxess adapter. You might have to relocate the mic since the Aftermarket mic usually bigger and better. I think your HU is pretty nice too. I really want one but I can't justify spending more than $150 for it.
