From: http://www.autoloandaily.com/consume...yota-best-2747
"Consumer Reports has released its annual Automakers Report Card, which ranks automakers based on road tests and predicted reliability. For 2011, Honda, Subaru and Toyota took the top three spots... This is the third year in a row that Honda, Subaru and Toyota scored highest by the magazine. Honda, including Acura, has the best reliability record of any manufacturer, according to Consumer Reports. ... Subaru has the highest average road-test score of 81. Consumer Reports says the only Subaru model that has below-average reliability is the Impreza WRX. All five of Subaru's other vehicles scored high in road tests and reliability." Comments? I would like to hear what others (especially long time owners) think about this. |

The only reason I can think of that the WRX isn't that reliable is because people mod the crap out of them. When you start making serious changes to ANY vehicle, you start to sacrifice that reliability. I know a couple of people with full race cars, and it seems like it spends 90% of their time in a shop getting something fixed or modified.
That said, I really haven't met anyone with a virgin WRX that has had any big problems with it. Modified, I have seen several blown engines. |

Meh-my stock WRX had to have two wheel bearings replaced, tons of warranty work prior to that and the head gasket blew at 105K miles. Not terribly reliable...

wrx spun bearings and subaru's gross mishandling of the fiasco has a lot to do with the poor rating.

Everyone's a wannabe mechanic and mess up their WRXs doing things they shouldn't be. Furthermore, they probably don't have the funds to get proper tunes so their engines blow up. Lastly, Foresters and Legacies don't see tracks as often as WRXs do.

Interesting how wrx is more unreliable than other models. Wait a minute, last I checked wrx shares same exact to the T drive like with forester and a lot of parts as the legacy. So how can a car that as part for part just with different styling and interior be more unreliable? Wait wonder why one of most common cars that Subaru makes is AutoX, Tracked, Drag raced all the time happens to be more unreliable. Wonder if that has anything to do with them pushing the car and its parts to its limits more time. Call BS on the article.
Again good example of what somebodys sees from the outside, doesn't do their own research and then claims that they know it all. Worst part is a lot of people believe this stuff. Telling you would say a good 3/4 of all "news", "reviews", etc is all BS where people put in their own 2cents or guess on information. Telling me news or reviews on something I want to know facts. Don't give a **** what you think about it, only care about the facts so thats all that should be said. I think I could put the pieces to the puzzle together after. |

Yeh, I would have to guess it's gotta be the "mod" issue. The WRX has to be one of the most ("seriously") modded cars out there (putting an intake and exhaust on an N/A Civic doesn't count!). It's. interesting too because my buddy recently sent me something that ranked the safest cars. The Subaru Impreza was on the list in either the Top 5 or Top 10 (can't remember) but what was interesting is that there was a little asterisk which, at the bottom, said "Excluding WRX". I still don't know what that meant. Could it be because of how fast it is? Or the fact that it comes stock with summer tires maybe? I have no idea.
Oh well, guess we'll all just have to be happy driving an unreliable car that's not safe! |

Could just be that they didn't test the WRX/STi and consider it a different model due to the fact that it has "MOAR POWAH!" Not to mention the crash statistics from insurance companies probably shows a much higher ratio of WRX/STi losses than Impreza 2.5i losses and they don't take the statistics of the niche model into account on the final safety rating of the (most likely) more popular version of the car. |

I dont think consumer report looks at modded wrx.. and reliability is not related to crashing.. these cars get tested aand apparently wrx rnt that great.
